Angelo Dundee will be in Tommy Z's corner, that's something. I'm assuming that although Zbikowski will now be a pro, he can't accept any endorsement money and still play football. Is the NCAA OK with him winning boxing prize money?
once again the NCAA is wishy-washy and mind-boggling with their ruling. Players cannot capitalize on their fame as an amateur player (ie football camps). I can somewhat understand why someone can play minor league baseball, since they make the team independent of their scholarship sport fame.
However, in this case, Zibby is directly profiting from his school and fame as an ND player. Without that interest, this fight would not be taking place in the garden.
Also, boxing is notorious for having rigged fights, or at least unfair ones. Zibby seems to be a talented boxer with a lot of interest from his amateur accomplishments in ND football. I have a hard time imagining them giving him a tough first fight and throwing away potential for any future matchups.
