It’s an interesting discussion point. On one side, it could be used as a litmus test for priorities with a potential for insight into cultural fit. On the other side there also needs to be recognition that there are MANY instances of these kids who are in situations where the NIL now is meaningfully important and if a kid has talent, relying on the fact that they would be found.

While it’s disappointing to lose a kid to a situation where we get outbid, I don’t know that I could paint all situations with the same brush.

I mean, it's not 100% everybody. But these are 17-18 year old kids. A program like MD can flash a few hundred grand more & more often than not likely get the kid. Prestige, recent success, etc. doesn't mean as much as the mighty $ to kids who (mostly) didn't grow up rich.

Bryce Underwood being the prime example. He expressed zero interest in going to scUM. None. LSU has just recently produced two of the best QBs in the NFL. Then, suddenly, scUM puts together a bag and he's all Skunkbear.

It's a new world. I think we're wading into unprecedented parity. Also-run programs like SMU and any number of traditional also rans will be able to cobble together playoff caliber rosters stocked with top recruits if their supporters have deep enough pockets.
