i know this is a buckeye thread, but i'm gonna put up an LSU post just because.

been to way too many games to even come close to guessing my record.
so i'll just post some memorable games i attended.

losses:

  • '96 Bama. thought we had "arrived" after a good start to season. lost 26-0. bama freshman Shaun Alexander had the greatest single game performance I ever saw. 291 yds, 4 TDs and sat out most of 4th quarter.
  • '97 Auburn. lost 31-28 in what to this day this game ranks in the top handfull i ever witnessed even though we lost. Cecil Collins rushed for 232 yds.
  • '99 houston. they kicked our ass 20-7, but the game wasn't that close. extended our school record 8 game losing streak, and I prayed it was the final nail in DiNardo's coffin.
  • '08 Bama. we had a terrible defense, and an even worse QB. bama was undefeated and #1 in country. when we blocked their game winning fg attempt on last play of regulation, i just knew we were gonna win. then Lee threw a pick in overtime and we lost.


wins:

  • '86 vs. A&M 1st game i ever attended we won 35-17
  • '88 Auburn. the Earthquake game. Hodson to Fuller for the winning TD with just over a minute to play. crowd reaction registered on a seismograph a few blocks from stadium.
  • '95 Auburn. after the way the '94 game ended, I wanted this win more than any other in my lifetime. clinched the win by intercepting a pass in endzone on last play of game.
  • '97 Florida. they were undefeated, defending MNC, and #1 in country. we jumped out early on them, and held on to win 28-21. Death Valley was rocking that night. goal posts came down.
  • '00 Tennessee. 1st overtime game ever in Tiger Stadium. goalposts came down again.
  • '00 Bama 1st time we beat Bama in baton rouge since '69. last time goal posts were torn down in Death Valley.
  • '03 Georgia. it was during this game that we turned the corner. it was the 1st time in my life that I truly felt we belonged in the conversation and best team in the country.
  • '07 Va Tech. an epic ass kicking against a top 10 team.
  • '08 Troy. down 31-3 late 3rd quarter. came all the way back to win it 40-31. that was the coldest night i ever experienced in that stadium.
  • '11 Arkansas. seeing that big 13-0 on our scoreboard after the game was the most beautiful sight these eyes have ever seen.


ties:

  • '87 Ohio State. only sporting event I ever attended that ended in a tie. i remember being really pissed when my dad told me the game was over even though nobody won.

I attended over 35 games in the 80s, mostly as a student, and have attended over 70 altogether. I couldn't begin to tell you my overall record but I would safely guess we've won over 75% of them. I do recall a few memorable ones:

Our upset of Chuck Long and #1 ranked Iowa in the Shoe. I think that was '85.

Harbaugh's guarantee win in the Shoe. I think that was '86.

The first night game kickoff in the Shoe, 10-7 over Pitt in (I think) 1986. Cris Carter scored the game winner on 4th down in the 4th quarter.

Our first loss to Indiana in the Shoe since 1959, in 1987.

Iowa beating us on a 29 yard TD pass with Marv Cook carrying half of our defense over the goal line as time expired, in the Shoe in 1987.

Earle's last game - an upset at Michigan - my only trip to Ann Arbor.

Ohio State 72, Pitt 0, 1995. That was hilarious.

Our win at Pittsburgh the year before that blowout, 1994.

Coop's finest hour, beating TSUN by 15 in the Shoe in '98.

Belisari's break out versus UCLA, ultimately proving to be fool's gold.

MoC running wild on Texas Tech and Washington State in 2002.

Triple OT win over Phillip Rivers and NC State in 2003.

Our Alamo Bowl win over Okie State in 2004. Loved San Antonio.

The night PoSU fans threw beer at our band - my first, and only, visit to Crappy Valley.

Our win over Navy in the Shoe a few years ago.

Plenty more where those came from, and look forward to more in the future. :)

1973 Opener
56-7 win over Minnesota. My first game. After the Gophers' only TD, Archie Griffin caught the ensuing kick-off directly in front of where I was sitting in A-Deck (west side of south end-zone) and returned it up the left sideline for a touchdown.

52-7 win over Wisconsin. Badgers were ranked and their fans thought they were all that. They scored early and were obnoxious. My dad told them to enjoy it because it would be their last score. They left early rather than hear my dad say "I told you so".

After having attended about half of the games of the '73-'76 seasons, this was the first loss I attended.

Yeah, there's a big gap here...

Illinois: South Stands - Illini take a 24-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter. Keith Byars goes nuts, with his left shoe and without, and breaks Archie's single game record.

1985
Iowa ranked #1 coming into the 'Shoe. Not so much after leaving. Walked home to my apartment on 13th street and got to touch the piece of the goal post that was being paraded down High Street.

LSU takes a two score lead with not much time left. My brother, who lives in one of the towers (forget if it was Lincoln or Morril), is one of the 80,000 people who left at that point. By the time he got back to his room; he could hear that he made a bad decision (which he has yet to live down). 36-33 Buckeyes

1994
Jim Colletto(sp?), who had been Cooper's OC, is now the HC at Purdue. He comes into the 'Shoe and tries to cover Joey Galloway and Chris Sanders 1-1 without so much as a safety over the top. On both occassions I told the people around me in C-Deck that if Hoying saw what we were seeing, the Buckeyes were going to score on the play. He did and they did on both occassions. 49-14 Buckeyes.

1995
Don't let anyone who was a student at the time tell you otherwise: My brother and I started the "Ed - D, Ed - D" chant early in the Washington game. I have since read that students started it during the ND game. I guess that writer must have missed the Washington game, because the whole stadium was doing it by the 4th quarter.

2003
Another win over Washington. I was there to welcome the Buckeyes back to the 'Shoe in their first game after winning the 2002 NC. Incidentally, I also saw the Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers open their 2003 season. That was a bit of a flashback for me, as it was the first time I'd seen Mike Alstott(sp?) play in-person since the game in the 'Shoe back in 1994.

2010
Students chanted "Get Used To It" at Danny Hope near the end of a 49-0 blow-out of Purdue. Seriously hoping that we do that again this year.

2012
Won the Alumni ticket lottery for Michigan tickets. The first victory over Michigan with yours truly in attendance.

I've been to a lot of games, most of which occurred with my dad when I was little (pre-1992). Some notable games were the comeback win vs. LSU in 1988, the tie vs. scUM in 1992, the loss at UCLA in 2001, and the win at Washington in 2007.

I've seen the extreme highs and lows for in-person game experiences. I was there in 1998 for MSU. Don't remember what happened though. I was also there against TSUN in 2002 (still have some of the field in a ziploc bag). And last year I was able to see the Wiscy game in person with my brother from CO. There have been multiple games before the Wiscy game not as memorable but plenty fun.

I am heading out to Bloomington this year for my first away B1G game. I want to travel to all of the away sites once in my life (that includes Pasadena).

I have seen the best Buckeye team in my generation lose on the football field. Other than that game, my overall outcome is roughly 13-1.

I'd like to go to all the other B1G stadiums but I prefer not to be pelted with batteries and doused with piss so I'll be skipping Wisconsin and Penn State.

19 of 20 ain't bad. One really [Mark May]ty loss almost kills the 19 wins though. Undefeated against scUM makes up for it a bit. Eddie's 4 TD's and something like 250 yds made for a great first game.

No road games, no bowl games - I need to work on that.

That's why I am planning on visiting Slappy Valley when they are down and hopefully the crowd isn't as intense(that would be with my GF). As for Madison, I would probably tag along with my marine buddies who teach hand-to-hand combat(I would never subject my GF to that).

Moral of the story, girlfriend better off at PSU (not so rapey, believe it or not) and combat specialist for the cheese crowd.
