The HOSTS file on that site is much larger than mine (180 Kb vs. about 30 K). I don't know what all they list. I update mine whenever I run across something I don't want to see, so it gets the job done for me. I would rather not have an enormous file, since it might take longer for the browser to search through. Just my opinion of course.

If you want I can upload it periodically and give a link.

Cleve I would appreciate a place where I can download yours at. I have never tried any of this, but anythinig that will speed up my browsing is worth a shot. Kind of greedy though, since my connection is very very fast for being cable. I get 2.5 megabits/second which is about 20% faster than the average of Ohio and faster than the listed T-1 (1.43MBits/sec).

1) BugMeNot is a great helper - thank you
2) Modzilla is causing me some grief...
a) PDFs will not launch like they do for me in IE (I've changed the tools option tab)
b) Cannot get it to import from IE for other users (XP home)... getting a run time error... FAQs talk about a ProfileManager... but I can't find it/can't seem to get a RUN command to launch it...

Any advice?

It's called Adblock, no more valueclick...
Get it from here:

Some Bama dude on the OU board was talking about it. When you DL it ad these filters to it. Works great

AdAware Reference File Problems

I tried to download the latest reference file for AdAware and it locked up at the 5% point, and now when I try to run AdAware I get an "Error while loading the Ad-aware reference file". This happened about three days ago on my home computer, and I thought maybe it was just a bad file transfer, but when I tried to update my work computer the same shit happened. Is this happening to anyone else, and if so, how did you repair the reference file?

Help! Clarity, I just DL'd that HOSTS file, put it in my sys32/etc folder as instructed and now when I try to go to ESPN my "Aol toolbar" .. umm.. I guess the word is hijacks it.

First, I have no idea how this AIM toolbar even showed up, and second I have no clue how to turn it off.

Wait, I got it to stop, had to go to "Tools" "manage add on" and disable the AIM stuff. Checked ESPN and it didn't get hijacked or whatever. So, I guess tragedy narrowly avoided. If anyone else has this problem try this solution, and hopefully it works for you too.

grad... try download.com .. and download Ad-Aware SE...
when you select the install it'll ask if you want to remove previous versions...
which you should...
then first launch will ask if you want to search for all updates...
which you should...
and lookout when it does it's first run...
cuz it'll make your eyes bug out what this new version finds...
it finds EVERYTHING...

For grad and anyone else using adblock with firefox the following link ads even more things to input adblock to knock ads, banners, etc. Also I believe instead of going to the trouble of adding each item one by one you can save the items as a list and then in Firefox, click on Tools, Adblock -> Preferences. Click the Adblock Options button on the top right, and select "Import filters". Find the file, and click OK. You're now blocking.
