My guess is he went on vacation last week and enjoyed not having to deal with it and decided it was time to go.

That and the Ray Small stuff seemed to piss the board off even more. Very good chance JT had little choice.

Yeah, at this point the SI story doesn't really matter. The damage is done, whether the SI story had anything to do with it or not.

(obviously it matters, but the bombshell was Tressel resigning)

I'm assuming he knows that with all of the records requests that have been coming in that he knows info. in those deleted e-mails and texts would have brought him down in time.
