Florida may have accidentally banned computers and smartphones

Got a laptop or an iPhone in Florida? You could be violating the law.

In an attempt to ban Internet cafes in the Sunshine State, legislators may have been a bit too broad in their language, resulting in what some legal experts say is a law that inadvertently makes it illegal to own a computer or a smartphone.

The bill, which was signed into law by Florida governor Rick Scott in April, was meant to shut down cafes, some of which have been tied to illegal gambling in the state. And shut them down it did: over 1,000 cafes were immediately closed.

But it's the wording that's problematic, as it defines a slot machine as "any machine or device or system or network of devices" that can be used in games of chance. Turns out the Internet is full of gambling sites, which is where the definition runs into some problems.

Florida still had internet cafes?! Are they stuck in 1998 or are they just keeping pace with Namibia?

I don't think Ohio lawmakers banned the cellphones and computers.

Wow, they're still around?! I can remember huge Brazilian tour groups at Disney World in the mid 80's. They all wore color coded tshirts, spandex shorts & fanny packs (80's remember?).

The up side is that all the girls in the one staying at our hotel also wore brazilian cut bikinis when hitting the pool. That was quite a revelation at the time.

Police: Woman recorded herself having sex with dogs

NAPLES, FL (WFLA) – A Florida woman was charged Monday with engaging in sexual conduct with animals.

Collier County Sheriff’s Office deputies say Miranda Johns, 21, of Naples, recorded herself while she had sex with her two dogs, NBC affiliate WBBH-TV reports.

Johns allegedly sent the videos to her boyfriend, according to WBBH-TV. The boyfriend later told officials about the footage during a domestic complaint call.

Investigators allegedly found videos of the sexual encounters involving Johns’ two dogs and arrested her on three counts of engaging in sexual conduct with animals.
