rocketman

flying low
In the market for a new car, looking at my options and the WRX stands out as something I could definitely find myself driving. Turbo + AWD sounds awesome. Whats your impressions and do you know of places online where I can get comprehensive info on '05 and later models?

I have a 2002 WRX Sedan. Great car. No problems with it until I rear-ended somebody last week and so it'll be in the shop for 2 weeks. :smash:

Don't waste time with an automatic. Only idiots get WRX Autos. Manual is kick ass with this thing.

If you have the cash, get the WRX STi. Never ridden in it or drove it, but I imagine it's amazing.

WRX and Sti both got "best buys" in Car and driver.

I am a fan of both and would kill to own an STi. A buddy of mine got an '06 manual. Fucking thing drives your balls into your throat on the start and tight corners. I pee alittle everytime we go to grind it out on the mountains.

yeah, that's what sucks living in the MidWest. Everytime I go on vacation to Utah or Colorado or Caly I just imagine driving the WRX on the mountains instead of the rental Focus or Sentra and I just think :smash:

Oh I bet. Getting an auto WRX would be like drinking caffeine-free Mountain Dew. What the fuck is the point?

After doing a little research it looks like the 2006 and up models got a significant upgrade over the previous years. I wouldn't mind getting their lower end TR model. It looks like I'd be missing out on the "premium" sound system (which I would replace anyway) and color-matched side mirrors.

The 2008 Subaru Impreza has been glimpsed in pictures, but now we have a glimpse of the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI.

In my mind the WRX has 2 negatives.
1. short on interior space(like all the Imprezas)
2. twin turbos( turbos have a finite life) will need replacing at some point($$$$)

How about a non-turbo Honda Civic SI?
Or even a Mitsu Eclipse with a v6 and stick?

I currently drive an Integra so anything has more space than that car. Honestly, as a gear head, I'm relishing the thought of having a turbo because thats more stuff for me to tinker around with. I drove an '02 Eclipse in high school and I hated it. The torque-steer on that thing was insane. I don't know how the new models are though. SI's are indeed beastly...

What could you possibly "tinker around with" on a tricked from the factory car like a WRX?
If you had a sporty, non-turbo car you could always add a turbo or nitrous.

Another cool choice might be a VW Golf GTI. (turbo)

I kind of like the ugly grill and the bug lights.

Nobody gets this car for the looks. One thing I've noticed is the compliments I get whenever I valet park it at a restaurant or hotel. I make sure to check the odometer so they don't pull a Ferris Beuller.

YOu can tinker plenty with the WRX...just check out the WRX forums

http://forums.nasioc.com/

The funny thing is when these idiots complain about the tranny given out after they increased the horsepower.

"tricked" is quite an overstatement to the generic public. even the STi has far amounts of power and chassis upgrades available..........especially in american form.
