WR Trevon Grimes (transfer to Florida Gators)

Only thing that I'm a little curious about...staying home to be near sick family member. ok.

Ft Lauderdale isn't exactly just down the street from Gainesvlle.

It's a 5 hour drive, easy.

I tend to agree but we dont know if his family was like "no to tha U" or anything else.
5 hour drive is easier and cheaper than a flight (almost anything is cheaper than flying to columbus... I do that 3 or 4 times year x4 tickets)...

plus Mullen is Urbans guy..

I like that they are actually thinking about these immediate eligibility requests instead of making it black and white. Grimes didn't want to leave OSU, he had a sick dad and wanted to be closer to home. That said they've let some kids play without sitting that leaves me puzzled.

Totally understand Trevon's decision here and while it may not really have an immediate impact given our depth and talent at the WR group this year, could really see this one stinging a little down the road...I expect Grimes to have a huge career at Florida.

It's just so inconsistent, that's where my problem lies with it. Sometimes it seems like they literally flip a coin to decided "yay or neigh"

TREVON GRIMES, WIDE RECEIVER, FLORIDA
Grimes was an extremely hyped player (a high four-star) coming out of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale.

Expected to be Ohio State's next great wide receiver, Grimes instead finished his Buckeye career with three catches for 20 yards. He took a leave of absence from the program in order to be with his mother, who was dealing with health issues, then transferred to the University of Florida.

So far this season, Grimes has recorded 11 catches for 129 yards and a touchdown, which came in the Gators' opening game rout against Charleston Southern.

Grimes' most well-publicized moment this season may have been his criticism of former teammate Joe Burrow.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do against our defense and if he can make those plays,” Grimes told the Orlando Sentinel. “But I’m sure he won’t be able to. I’m excited to see what they can go out there and do and come out victorious once again.”

Grimes was right, of course, as the Gators knocked off LSU 27-19 back on Oct. 6.

SKULL SESSION: MICHAEL THOMAS RETURNS TO OHIO STATE, CHRIS CHUGUNOV'S ROLE ON THE TEAM, AND TREVON GRIMES' RECORD-SETTING SPRING GAME

GRIMES BALLS OUT.
Yesterday, I talked about Tate Martell's rather rough spring game down Miami, but it ain't all bad news for former Buckeyes in the sunshine state.

I have no real way of backing up this claim, but I'm pretty sure Trevon Grimes had the best spring game performance of all time over the weekend for his Florida Gators.

From Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times:

Grimes’ 195 receiving yards broke UF’s spring game record; two of his four catches went for touchdowns, and a third took him down to the 1.

“He went crazy,” receiver Freddie Swain said. “You can tell that during spring practice he finally understands what he is doing and why he is doing it. It shows that he has tremendous ability to be a great athlete.”

Historically, the success rate of players who transfer from Ohio State isn't all that high, but I think Grimes is going to be just fine, and I'm rooting for him. He tore his ACL before his first season at Ohio State then ended up missing most of the year to be closer to his sick mother before formally transferring a few months later.

Nobody's ever really doubted his ability to play football, life just hasn't exactly given him that chance until recently, and he's making the most of it.
