IRVING, Texas - There is a chance Terry Glenn could play for the Cowboys this season after all.
The wide receiver underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Thursday morning, a procedure that could allow him to return to field this year, team spokesman Rich Dalrymple announced during the team's practice at Valley Ranch.
Glenn visited Dr. Christopher Kaeding at Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio with the intention of "doing whatever was needed" to potentially return this year, according to Dalrymple.
The surgery, performed by Dr. Kaeding, OSU's team surgeon who was at the school when Glenn played there from 1994-96, was an arthroscopic procedure to clean out loose bodies in the knee.
"Terry really wants to play this season," Dalrymple said. "And this was a procedure that allows Terry to play this year."
Dalrymple said there was no timetable for Glenn's potential return.
"Some players certainly would've said 'my season is through,'" head coach Wade Phillips said. "For him to say I'm going to try everything I can to be a part of this team, I think tells you what kind of person he is. I don't have any feel for it how long it could be. But we're certainly going to save a spot for him."
Glenn, who missed all of the preseason after undergoing surgery on Aug. 1 to remove a small cyst on the back of his right kneecap, returned to practice Sept. 5, only to suffer cartilage damage unrelated to his previous injury.
It was determined that Glenn would either need to have arthroscopic surgery that would allow him to play this year, but could cause some long-term damage to his knee, or he could have the microfracture surgery that would not only end his season this year, but also jeopardize his career, considering Glenn turned 33 in July.
