I guess I disagree on the throw to Jake in the endzone while he could of run it in it was a great QB read not forcing it in a hole he couldn't fit it in. If Jake would of read the linebacker coming across so he couldn't lead him and stopped it would of been a TD and a play we would be talking about showing his maturation as a QB.

But that particluar throw wasn't a bad read. He probably should have run it in, but that wasn't a throw into the teeth of a defense. There was a different throw to Jake where he looked off Jake, came back to him, and threw it into 3 defenders. On that throw he was obviously, pre-snap, decided on where the ball was going. Without even looking at how the coverage converged on Jake, he put the ball where he thought it could be a completion...

He's gotten away with that throw several times, but when its a perfect throw people applaud the completion even if it isn't the right read. That's happened a lot as well.

I remeber a touchdown to Dane Sanzenbacher last year against Toeldo. Great throw, bad decsion. It was a touchdown and people said it was proof of his NFL QB ability. He showed a good arm, but any scout who saw the throw would have assesed it as a poor decision.

The guy has all the tools though...he just needs to keep developing, watching film, and improving everyday. It sounds cliche, but the more he puts into it, the more he will get out. By all accounts, in the last year, he has committed to becoming the best QB possible. If that's the case, he'll be indefensible next year. He can hardly be contained this year...

Indeed I'm not sure how much his throwing has improved this year from last though at times he throws perfect throws and you are in awe. However I think his decision making is much further along then it was last year and that will help immensely by just that. He still occasionally has those what were you thinking moments but they are fewer and less costly from a decision standpoint then the decisions he was making last year.

Nerdy stat stuff about Pryor:

On the game vs. Miami...

  • Pryor is a better runner than ever. Pryor broke his record for most rushing yards in a game. (113) Not only that, he did it against a top 15 team. Pryor's previous record was 110 yards against Toledo in 2009 and Illinois in 2008. Pryor has never had this kind of success against such big-time teams as his best against any top-25 team in terms of rushing was in that heartbreaker against Texas in the 2008 Fiesta Bowl (72yds).
  • Tressel trusts Pryor to throw (redux). Yet again, Pryor threw often. He's only thrown more against a top-15 once - the Rose Bowl against Oregon (37 attempts). This is now 3 consecutive games with >20 pass attempts....Two of which were top-15 teams.
  • Pryor was sloppy in the passing game. The game ranks as the 3rd worst in his history for passing completion percentage, at 44.4%. Worse days came against USC in 2009 (44.0%) and Michigan in 2008 (38.5%).
  • Other 'First' of the career: No interceptions while throwing more than 20 passes against a ranked opponent.
On the year...

  • Pryor still has 0 INTs. After 52 attempts, he is still INT-less. Although he's had a longer span of time that he hadn't thrown any (57 attempts between NMST and Iowa in 09) he's started the year out with the fewest of his career. In 2008, he threw a pick by attempt #33, in 2009, it was by attempt #21.
  • Pryor is on track to... According to ESPN.com, he's on track for a Tressel-era record of 2,880 passing yards. Could Pryor really beat Smith as the best passing QB under Tress? He's on track for over 300 attempts, and if accomplished, will be only the 2nd QB to do that (Smith in 06...as per OSU's stat DB)
  • And also to... Beat his 2009 record for rushing yards in a year. He's projected to break his own Tressel-era record of rushing yards at 835 for this year. Nice.

If Pryor stays all four years, there is no doubt in my mind he will go down as the best QB in the history of OSU football.

I think he COULD do that even if he only stays three. If he is good enough to leave after three, he will have had to have stepped it up a notch the rest of the year and his numbers would likely be pretty sick.

People are bitching about Pryor on 97.1 right now. Hooley is the ring leader of a bunch of morons bitching about how he didn't have that good of a game passing against Miami and if he hasn't reached Peyton Manning level as a passer by now he will never get there ect. ect.

Some people are just ridiculous, the guy could throw for 500 and 7 TDs and they would bitch about a few passes that were almost intercepted.

question for anyone who was at the game....

Terrelle had 20+ throws in the first half. He only had 4 or so in the second half when we were just burning clock. It was hard to tell on TV how bad it was raining in the first half? Did the rain have any impact on his poor completion percentage? I know he mantioned that the one over the middle that was almost picked slipped out. I'm just curious if this is much adieu about nothing.

The Pryor touchdown run where he rolled right, found nothing then cut back and scored makes up for at least 4 incompletions . Then his game of keepaway for the last 7 mins of the game was really quite breathtaking.

Pryor is a solid passer and exceptional runner. IMHO...No matter how much he practices, he will always be a better runner than he is a passer. Take the good with the bad....and on Saturday the good far outweighed the bad.

If we go 3 and out on that last drive, Miami gets the ball back down 12 with 5 minutes to go. Pryor flat out closed the game out.

Criticism about his passing in the Miami game is warranted. He didn't throw for 500 yards and 7 TDs. He missed a lot of easy throws, and more importantly, important throws. And he had at least two throws that we were very lucky weren't picked.

Hyperbole in regards to bitching is just as bad as hyperbole about him doing no wrong.

To be the best, he has to beat the best.

He needs to put a Heisman Trophy on OSUs shelf and/or lead us to more than one BCS victory. He will need to take us at least once to the promise land (BCS National Title Game).

If anything Pryor reminds me of Krenzel. In big games, they are clutch. They are both tall, mobile, and will put their bodies on the line. Their passing game is decent but not jaw dropping. They can throw the deep ball but struggling in the short game.

Look at Krenzel's stats vs Pryor's against Miami:

Krenzel - Junior
Pryor - Junior

Passing Comp
Krenzel - 7 (33%)
Pryor - 12 (42%)

3rd Down Comp %
Krenzel's O - 33%
Pryor's O - 33%

TDs
Krenzel - 2
Pryor - 2

Rushing
Krenzel led the team
Pryor led the team

Result:
Krenzel - Win
Pryor - Win



Now, the biggest difference though is that Krenzel won us a championship and finished with TWO BCS wins under his belt as a starter. If Pryor leaves after his Junior season without a BCS Title Game and no Heisman, he still isn't the best. He will need to prove that he is a leader throughout the entire season before we title him anything.

we lose to Purdue in a complete bomb of a game, people want to move him WR

we win the premiere out of conference game of the season, people bitch because he had a below average passing game (still better than almost any game of his career) and people complain that he will never be an elite passer

my point is that some people will always move the bar higher and higher and will never be satisfied with his performance, and that is ridiculous to me

I think a NC and a Heisman may be necessary for this.
