The Pryor Effect

OSU has been very fortunate to have had some HUGE talent through the years and those names helped build the program. Chic, Archie, Kern, Eddie...we can argue who the most talented Buckeye is/was. BUT...I don't know if there has ever been a player who has had anything close to the impact that Pryor has had..certainly not in such a short tenure.

Pryor has been in S&G for 5 games and he has already changed the national perception of the program. He already has recruits taking notice and dropping his name when discussing their options and why OSU is on their list.

He already pulls together his teammates during the game on the sidelines. For all I know he is telling them a dirty joke...but he is making the effort. When he steps on the field the crowd and the team feel it.

For the last 8 months OSU has been the national media joke...but two starts later and the tone has changed. They are not putting us back in the title game (yet), but the acidity is gone. They are taking notice.

This young man's impact is just hard to comprehend...it is so dramatic and it came to the Horseshoe like a damn train. Has the program ever had a player with this kind of impact? Clarett captured the spotlight (for a combination of talent and his mistakes) but Pryor is already shaping the program in ways that are not necessary even attributed directly to him.

Things are just....

different.

And he seems to thrive on it....maybe Flam put a similar stamp on the program. Troy did to an extent..but he was slower to arrive.

I just have to say how much I appreciate the recruiting effort to win him over. Props to the staff for putting the right message forward and for taking the risk of giving him the ball. What ever happens next may not always be positive..but it is damn sure going to be exciting.

Nice post, HINYG8. It's way to early to put him in the same sentence as those players. But at the same time, what we've seen so far makes it impossible not to think that he will be next on the list. At this point, I think his impact is most like when Teddy Ginn first hit the scene. No one was sure what to expect, but when he ripped off one of his amazing runs, you couldn't believe what you just saw. Pryor has already had several moments where he was obviously the most gifted athlete on the field. The fact that he plays QB instead of WR just means he will have more opportunities to take over the game. It still remains to be seen how he performs against a top tier defense (as a full time starter), but his play so far is close to Troy's mid 2005 level. The scary thing is that you can tell he has that competitive fire to not only be great, but the best. I'm sure I'm reading a lot into it, but when you see him jawing with opponents (like after he trucked the Minny LB out of bounds), he doesn't seem to be saying, "Yeah, [censored] you, too!"; he seems to be saying, "Keep talking, 'cause I'm just getting started.". I don't know if he's changed the natinal attitude toward OSU yet, but I'm certainly more excited about the season now than I was on 9/14. If he's causing recruits to gravitate towards OSU, perhaps he can persuade certain juniors to stick around for one more year. Good times!

Just as a recruiting tool alone, he is a game changer.
On the field. the QB handles the ball every play, so having a dynamic guy there changes everything. We lacked explosion till he started. Now with another game changer, the whole offense in more dynamic and explosive.

I believe that Meyer tried to recruit him at WR no? This suprised me even more because Pryor would be perfect at QB for Florida with the system they run.

A number of teams tried to recruit him at WR, DE, Saftey I think among others. Kid could really play anwhere he's so athletic and fast, but makes the biggest impact at QB where, like others havbe said, he touches the ball every play.

Imagine a backfield with two Tebow's. But ultimately TP decided to play football for a good team and for a coach who doesn't sell snake oil on the side. TP is even a better judge in character than he is a football player.
