OSU's Pryor enjoys the challenge of performing on big stage

COLUMBUS When Terrelle Pryor talks, you would swear the 18-year-old quarterback has ice water running through his veins.

Pryor will get his first real test as Ohio State's true freshman starting quarterback when the 14th-ranked Buckeyes head to Camp Randall Stadium to play No. 18 Wisconsin.Camp Randall is electric, though not so much because of voltage and watts. It's more barley and hops.

The prospect of playing in Wisconsin, the only conference team with a winning record (3-2) against OSU Head Coach Jim Tressel, didn't seem to faze Pryor.

"As the big games come up, you have to produce," Pryor said. "If you don't produce, you're not what you say you are. When a big game comes up like (Wisconsin), that's great. Wisconsin is a great team. They have a great coaching staff leading them. We have to produce."

It's that kind of attitude that has endeared Pryor to Tressel, and one of the reasons he has taken over as the Buckeyes starting quarterback. Fifth-year senior Todd Boeckman, going back to last season, has struggled on the big stage.

Pryor invites the bigger stage ? or louder one, if you will.

"From what I've been able to observe, that's who he is," Tressel said. "I have thought, whether it's been a big scrimmage during the preseason or the opener against Youngstown ... or on the road at USC ... he has had a similar demeanor. He wants the information necessary to make decisions he needs to make.

"I think he likes playing on the loudest sta

From the Rep article: Camp Randall is loud. When the Wisconsin bratwursts give way to the Wisconsin, um, adult beverages, things get crazy.
That, despite what all the McKinley fans in Canton say is why I love Todd Porter. That being said, it'll be interesting to see the adjustments made and how TP performs. It's good to see that he seems to get excited about big games. Hopefully that excitement will be infectous and TP and Beanie shove it down the throats of Wisconsin and shut up the drunken skunk weasel fans

Seriously. If Threet can take off on a 58 yard run and end up with 89 rushing yards against UW, then Saturday is going to be a great night to be Terrelle Pryor.

I still can't even wrap my brain around how Wisky lost that game. I watched the first half and Threet was as bad a QB as I've seen in a long time in the Big Ten. I'm sure Bucky will right their ship a little this week, but I'm envisioning BIG things for TP this weekend! Look out!

Just in case no one knew, here are Pryor's passing stats so far:

29-46-1 (63.0%) 286 yards (6.2 ypa), 5 TD (overall)
18-29-1 (65.5%) 209 yards (7.2 ypa), 5 TD (starter)

I agree...but what amazes me is his balance. In high school I think he was like 1 or 2 yards away from complete 50/50 balance throwing/running yards. Something like 4300 passing, 4298 running. Look at his total rushing/passing stats this year, and its the same thing. Competition has gotten exponentially harder...but his results are (at least to this point) identical.

A meaningless pick, yes.
Not entirely meaningless. It was his mistake that led to the hail mary vs. FG attempt. Also meaningful because the sack that he took, leading to the interception, may have taught him that it's ok to throw it away and live another down.

The pick itself had zero impact on the game, and that's all I was referring to. He had other mistakes, sure.

In my lifetime, the only other athlete at tOSU that has had such a great impact on a program has been Greg Oden. The fact that Pryor could be here for 4 years will increase his impact on this team, way more than Oden ever did with the basketball program.
