I don't think tOSU is traditionally a school that attracts the elite QB recruit. That doesn't mean we haven't developed some good QBs, and maybe with Troy Smith being the first Big Ten Qb to win the Heisman, perceptions begin to change. But I think we are considered (largely from outside the conference) as 'smash-mouth football', "three yards and a cloud of dust", etc., and I'm sure Coaches recruiting against us play that stereotype up a lot when highly rank QBs have looked at OSU.

So I don't think saying that Pryor being the highest rated QB considering tOSU since Schlister is out of line at all. All players considered, you'd have to talk about lots of other kids being in the same 'class' like Teddy, MoC, Beanie, MDA, etc.

Thats what I read it as too.

As an "outsider", when I think of Ohio State, I think of Woody Hayes, dotting the I, great great running backs, old school bloodbaths vs. Michigan, and a hard hitting linebacker corps. I know some of that doesn't match the modern image of OSU, one that uses the spread more often and doesn't play UM to 7-6 slugfests any more, but thats the first thing that most people think of, and I think it shows in some of the recruiting trends. I mean guys like Mark Sanchez, Mitch Mustain, Jimmy Clausen... those consensus #1 "Superstar" QB prospects haven't really entertained the Buckeyes very often.

That said, a story like Troy Smith's can definitely change perceptions. Here's a kid that got into some trouble early in his career, and changed everything for the better, while coming away as a Heisman winner. Kids take notice when a 6 foot tall so called "athlete" prospect can be molded into a complete, Heisman winning QB. Therefore, I'm not surprised at all that OSU is suddenly on the map with an elite signal caller like Pryor. Not that they'll all of a sudden become "QB U" like Southern Cal is, but they're on the map now.

The problem was that Cooper was playing him over Joe Germaine, who was one heck of a college QB. I cringed every time Jackson went in because it was clear that Germaine was better. Nevertheless, our recent QB productions of Krenzel and much more notably Troy Smith have turned some heads and have put us on the map a bit. IC...excellent points and I agree...that is the perception but it is slowly turning around. If Pryor selects OSU and has a stellar career here, we could start seeing us being in the mix for some big time QB's.

In my opinion tOSU isn't out of the woods yet in terms of the QB stereotypes..

The flipflop game in 2004 and in the 2005 Texas game really stick out in my mind as a high-profile QB messup.

But having a quarterback Heisman winner helps haha.

Jackson was one of the worst at managing a game. I clearly remember him burning timeouts like they were nothing, and trying to scramble away with no real intent on moving forward. Anyways, Germaine finally got his time to shine and the rest is history. The Boston TD during the Rose Bowl win over AZ St is one of my fondest memories.

Anyways, I digress... back to Pryor.

no Young doesn't, and neither does Pryor. Vick was a 4.2-4.3 guy and neither of Young or Pryor is, but they are also 6 inches taller. Pryor doesn't need to be sub 4.4 to be effective.

a little bit away from pryor, i will take a sec to explain or defend my "obsession" with osu.edu
even though carmen breaks down or need maintenance at least 3 times a week, EVEN THOUGH i have to get on it every quarter and cough up about $2500 worth of blood, it still is better than umich.edu any day of the week, any hour, any minute, any second. besides, this is also the website where i go every year to get my season tickets!!! :) i love my buckeyes.....
