WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

Ted Ginn Jr. seeking rebirth with 49ers
August, 13, 2010

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Some players take the easy, dishonest route. They feign ignorance to public criticism and say it wouldn't bother them anyway.

Not receiver Ted Ginn Jr.

The San Francisco 49ers' new speed threat cares what people think and understands why they hold players to high standards. His conscientious nature comes through in what he says and through his actions (quarterback Alex Smith said Ginn has been working at 49ers headquarters every day since the team acquired him April 16). How much does Ginn care? Sometimes he'll Google his name just to see what people are saying about him following an ultimately disappointing three-year run with the Miami Dolphins.

Can a change of scenery help get Ted Ginn Jr.'s career back on track?

"You never know what you are going to find," Ginn said following a training camp practice last week. "You got the guys who love their team. You can't get mad at a fan who loves Miami that has been down there for 40 years and understands the tradition, just like you can't get mad at a fan who knows San Francisco. They want something out of you that they expect that you should do. It means I have to go out and give it to them."

Nice pic of Ginn Jr - always looksgood in Scarlet and Grey. Hopefully he can regain the same form and talents from his college days, San Fran is a good fit for him, maybe he is just what Alex Smith needs to pull it together.

I wish, I've been hearing Alex Smith hasn't been too great so far.. big surprise there.

But it sounds like Ginn has been a nice pickup. Hope he keeps it up and earns that slot position.

David Carr is back home too, I look for more of him as the season goes on. Guy was totally snakebit with the worst offensive line in history and that killed his first few years in the league. With some protection and a running game, Carr could excel in San Fran. Teddy just has to keep working at it and trying to improve. Doesnt hurt that Jerry Rice is hanging around either. Use his knowledge!

Not a super game from Ted last night but lets see how the next couple go. I'm really hoping he silences the critics this season.

Reading between lines on Ted Ginn Jr.

The San Francisco 49ers expect to be without promising rookie return specialist Kyle Williams for the next couple weeks and possibly longer after Williams suffered a toe injury. That would seem to mean more return work for veteran receiver Ted Ginn Jr., but that might not be the case.

"I'm not quite sure if we?ll do that," coach Mike Singletary told reporters Monday. "We may look at Ted a little bit more at that position, but we?ve got some other guys on our team that can do it, so we?ll just see how it goes."

Was Singletary questioning Ginn's ability as a returner? I think not. More likely, Ginn has shown enough promise as a wide receiver for the 49ers to value his contributions in that capacity -- to the point that the team might not want him serving as a full-time returner. Ginn was quite impressive in the 49ers practices I attended earlier in camp. The speed he offers the offense isn't something the 49ers can get from another player, but they might be able to find someone else to handle some of the returns.

just turned on the game and apparently Ginn had just dropped a pass he should have caught. :( when did all these problems with drops start? i dont remember him having any problems in college.

It was a tough play, and I wouldn't have necessarily called it a drop if I were calling the game. It would have been a nice catch, and one he's capable of making, but it wasn't like the ball hit him in the numbers. The throw was behind him.

i didn't see the play just heard Collinsworth saying Crabtree makes that catch and that those are the kind of catches Ginn needs to make. =\
