WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

Ginn will catch those as his career goes on but he's young so he'll drop one or two here or there. I think we need to use him ALOT. For example, I'd love to see Ginn Motion back behind Smith and have an Option with Ginn and Smith!! that'd be killer! By the way did anyone notice we ran the option once yesterday???

It should be obvious that no one got the ball very much yesterday. That was JT football, sitting on a lead against a team that he knew could only beat him with their defense. Sure their QB showed some athleticism, but he proved what tressel and others suspected: they were incapable of sustaining a full drive. Their TD came on a really short field (45-50 some yards I believe).

And giving Ginn the ball on a reverse DOES show a lot of confidence in him. It is very easy to fumble a reverse in the heat of the game flying in opposite directions during the exchange. Plus, there is the added dimension of facing more lineman and linebackers than a wide receiver typically faces during a play. It is a high risk high reward situation, and to allow his freshman to be at the center of such a risk is proof that JT is really excited about Ginn.

Giving him the ball on a reverse is a testament to the trust JT has placed in Ginn. Holmes didn't catch any more passes than Ginn, and Ginn had more throws his way I believe (not sure on that one). Plus keep in mind there were only EIGHT throws. So him getting 3 passes his way is a pretty good number.
i don't think holmes and smith are on the same page yet. one thing i have noticed is that zwick threw almost exclusively to holmes. smith rarely ever throws to him.

on the same token....smith and ginn hook up quite regularly, whereas zwick couldnt hit ginn to save his life.

smith was from glenville also wasnt he? did he ever hook up with ginn in HS?

I can't say that the are on the same page or anything, but Smith has 6 (2 td) completions to Holmes and only 3 (2 td) to Ginn. He does seem to be looking to Ginn more but considering he spread the ball around at IU and then was handcuffed against PSU, I wouldn't say that is necessarily a fair assessment. After Saturday's game we will have actual offensive statistics against a challenging team (not necessarily defensively) that will not roll over easily like the last two opponents.

it was a comfort level statement, not a diss on anyone. smith doesn't seem to ever hit holmes in stride and i don't think he has hit childress to date. these two guys were the only two zwick could find. just find it interesting.

Ginn is world class sprinter fast, as well as champion hurdler. He runs the 40 in 4.22 (that's lightning).

I wonder if the Smith-Zwick comparison is also a little unfair due to circumstances. I doubt Ginn was as experienced at WR (route running wise), nor was it as easy to get open against the tougher defenses Zwick faced.

Plus one of Ginn's catches came with protection against PSU, something Zwick hasn't seen yet.

I think your comments were made in good spirit but might not take everything into account properly.

i could take him in the 1/4 np.... in my car.. =P

the comparo is unfair, but not because of ginn's route running abilities. zwick had no running game and teams teed off on him. smith has had a running game and against psu an insto lead. kinda hard to compair the teams smith has played vrs. zwick. nothing against smith, he simply hasn't played the caliber of teams zwick has. we'll know what smith is all about in the next 2 weeks.

i think he was being a smart ass
