WR Taurian Washington (official thread)

Without having to read back through all 21 pages of this thread, what is the take on this kid? Experts? Those who have watched film?

Is he explosive? A possession type receiver? Strengths/weaknesses? What's the story on Washington? I haven't followed his recruitment as closely as I would have liked. I am excited that he's in this class, just want to know more.

Very Robo-esque in my opinion...great route runner for such a young age. Uses his body well in traffic and when the ball is in the air. Doesn't have blazing speed but is certainly fast enough and will be able to use his particular combination of size and speed to create seperation once he learns from a college WR coach. Very good in the open field. Has the frame to add a little weight and should learn to be a good downfield blocker in our system. Definitely one of the more underrated WRs in the country...Midwest WRs by their very nature are very underrated and because Taurian committed to OSU long ago not much has been said about him. His offer sheet speaks for itself...there isn't one team in the Big 10 that didn't want him.

Thanks a lot Wad! I knew someone would come through. I like the sound of TW. I am really hoping though that one of the speed athletes in this class steps up and poses a deep-threat like TG did. Always nice to have someone who can stretch the D on any given play.

Hopefully Ray Small is up for the challenge.

I wonder if he will redshirt. Is it realistic to think he might get some playing time this year?

WRs typically play sooner rather than later under Coach Hazell, FWIW. Physically, Taurian is ready to compete right now...it remains to be seen how the other aspects of the college game come to him.

I think the height that they were throwing out for Turian during the SD pressers (6'2"). However, they were also saying 180lbs, but seeing more recent pictures of him, he definitely weighs more that that. If Lyons does not step up this offseason or doesn't stay healthy, it is not out of the question to see Washington backing up Robiskie at the Flanker WR position.

Thanks for the info Wad. I think TW can come in and make some plays this year especially if he can use his tall frame to grab some jump balls in the endzone. Hopefully he can be a reliable target for whomever wins the QB battle this fall.

Taurian got noticed in 7-on-7 drills.

Impressive Freshmen: Every year at this time one of the big item of interest is who of the incoming freshmen is stepping up and may be able to help the Buckeyes. It's a bit early in that process since no one has had any pads on yet, but there were some people who stood out in seven-on-seven drills.

"The funny thing is that I've been watching a lot of them and I don't even know their names. We get to know each other in fall camp. The Taurian Washington kid from Michigan has been playing some good ball and Eugene Clifford has been playing some good ball," said Freeman.
Defensive back Malcolm Jenkins had an almost identical comment.

"I think one of the young receivers, Taurean from Detroit, he stood out a lot to me as far as the young offensive players. Eugene Clifford came in and he played pretty well at corner.

I think he'll be real good. He's pretty physical. He's got to work on his technique a little bit but he'll be straight," said Jenkins.

Cont'd ...
