T.Y. Williams might be one of the early turnaround stories for football coach Urban Meyer at Ohio State, at least if he keeps catching passes. It?s something the sophomore didn?t do often last year, in practice or games.
Williams made enough strides to get on the field late in the season, but he didn?t make the Gator Bowl trip, having been suspended for a violation of team rules. Some thought that Williams? days with the Buckeyes were numbered, as Meyer worked to cull the roster during the attrition process that accompanies a coaching change.
Not only is Williams still around, but he has caught passes thrown his way this spring, at least while the media has been allowed to watch. And in a special-teams drill this week in which downfield blocking was an emphasis, Meyer pulled Williams aside, gently grabbed his facemask, made a point and sent him on his way with a pat. Coaches generally don?t act that way with players who won?t play.
That said, Meyer still laments that almost halfway through spring practices, no receiver has made him say ?Wow!? In a backhanded way, that would suggest Williams has a shot to do that as much as anyone.
