WR Santonio Holmes (Super Bowl XLIII MVP)

Who else Thinks that Denver got in the Trade with the Falcons/Jets in order to move up to select our boy Holmes ????

The Denver Post had a blurb on the possibility this morning, although they thought Jackson might be a possibility as well. Given that Shanahan has taken guys like Marcus Nash (BUST), and Ashley Lelie (only okay) as 1st round WRs, he'll probably take Jackson. If Lendale White slips to 15, I could see them grabbing him too. I'd love to see Holmes here in Denver though.

I would honestly hate to see Holmes in Denver, one b/c I don't like the Broncos and two b/c they are a running team and I want to see Holmes put up some big stat numbers.

I do agree on Denver maybe picking up Lendale White, but they might take Williams if he is still available too.

Santonio could be Hines Ward in Denver.

Yes, and Jerry Rice was "known" to be slow. By everyone except the cornerbacks he blew past.

Santonio's combination of speed and strength will make him a very dangerous long threat in the NFL.
which is exactly why it isn't a diss and nobody should be bitching about it.

Rumblings....

Florida’s Chad Jackson has passed Ohio State’s Santonio Holmes as the top receiver in the NFL draft, at least according The Sporting News. The weekly says "Holmes didn’t help his stock by showing up at Ohio State’s pro day weighing 179 pounds, nearly 9 pounds lighter than his weight at the combine. He has good straight-line speed, but scouts worry he might not have elite quickness or burst."

Jackson, meanwhile, is described as "big and strong (6 feet 1, 213 pounds), and his 4.32-second 40-yard dash at the combine caught scouts’ attention." At Florida’s pro day, he "ran solid routes, performed well in position drills and showed his knowledge of the game while breaking down film with coaches."

it's amazing how obsessed some scouts are with workouts. Holmes has been bringing it for three years, including against top CBs like Jackson.

Chad Jackson was about the 3rd target on his own team according to some UF fans. He had issues with drops at times. He slid to avoid contact on one play.

Both are fine prospects, but to let measurables override far better production from holmes is just foolish.

lacking explosion? please. Perhaps he does not possess gamebreaking ability/speed like Moss or Ginn, but when was he caught from behind?

The Sporting News is getting caught up in the glamour of the 4.32 40 yard dash. Maybe they forgot about Santonio's pro day times? Anyways, The Sporting News is alone when it comes to thinking Chad Jackson will be drafted ahead of Santonio.
They are not alone.

Several sources have been trumpeting Jackson as the better prospect due to his size/speed combo. Santonio probably hurt himself a little showing up to pro day at 179 pounds (which anyway you slice it is small-ish for an NFL reciever). He'll get back up to his prior weight, but that didn't help him, even with the great 40 times. It'll be interesting to see who goes first (and they are both 1st rounders)...Santonio the more polished/fundamentally sound player vs. Jackson's combine numbers and "potential".
