WR Santonio Holmes (mega-merge)

There were reports that Holmes was wearing a boot on his foot yesterday and that is true, but it is merely a precaution for what has been described as a little bit of tenderness in the foot.

Nothing to worry about fellas.

Per the Ozone....

Many of the OSU starters got a break from heavy hitting, in many cases to allow them to heal up from some of the bumps and bruises of fall camp and the first four games. Among that number was wide receiver Santonio Holmes who has had a sore foot since fall camp. Holmes has been held out of drills this week to let the foot heal and is wearing a boot to immobilize the foot and help it heal.

"What he could gain by practicing wasn't as much as he could gain by resting up," said Tressel.
Tressel indicated that Holmes' injury was more of the nagging type, but not one that would keep him out of action.

"He wore the boot the whole week of the Miami game and then like Superman jumped out of the phone both," said Tressel.

"He's had a little bit of tenderness in that left foot probably all through preseason. Here's a chance for him to take a little pressure of it and we're doing that."

Holmes Helps Save The Day

There's so much talk about all the ineptitude on offense, and whom to blame and so forth. What's getting lost in this discussion is Santonio Holmes. With his family situation, he's probably gone after this year. He's good enough to be one of the all-time greats at OSU - Carter/Boston/Jenkins "great". I can't help but shake my head at how his tremendous talents are going to waste this year - for whatever reason you want to attribute to it.

Um I realize this is a bad time for everyone, and playcalling sucks, but santonio seems to be getting the ball a lot. He caught a big TD against Miami, Texas, and blew up the Iowa DBs for almost 100. He was hurt yesterday, which was a big reason he didn't get the ball more.

I'm not sure he's being wasted, per se.

That's not completely true. I agree that he's not been used as often as he should be, but he's caught 22 balls for 2 TD's (in 2004 he caught 55 balls for 7 TD's), which aren't terrible statistics. Plus he still has 7 games to show the nation what he can do.

he doesn't have to leave to support the needy family, but this is his 4th year (redshirted). 4 years is more than enough for a stud like him. He has earned the right to go and raise his children.

no one can ever say a d*mn thing about a player who leaves early for the nfl in order to take care of his family. the players who leave early don't actually earn the right (it's not about rights), but instead they simply take advantage of an opportunity that may be wasted if they incur an injury while in college. the player and the nfl teams are the ones who decide whether the player has "earned the right" -- not the teammates, coaches, and especially the fans. it's up to the player and the player only (family, too) to decide whether leaving early is the best thing.
