Carter won three showdowns with SVSM junior Parris Campbell, who beat Carter in the state indoor 60-meters. "It's a friendly competition. He pushes me," Carter said.
Carter won the 100 in 10.98 into a stiff headwind. Wearing aviator sunglasses, Carter celebrated before the line, raising his left arm and index finger as Campbell leaned hard. The winning margin was just .02.
"I was a little early on that one," Carter said. "I was just really excited. I had a bad start and he got off like, wow. About 70 meters in, I said, 'If I don't turn it up now, I'm going to lose.' "
