Never saw Childress' spring games but this was a lot different than a Taurian Washington type spring game.

1. Practice reports backed this up. He's been impressing all spring despite being a true frosh.
2. He didn't get his yards from a couple bombs. He was getting open consistently underneath. Finding holes in the defense. Showed excellent hands and the ability to get upfield right away. He looked controlled and like he belonged. Taurian never gave me that feeling.

Thomas showed instincts combined with physical talent that I never saw from Taurian. I will be shocked if this turns out to be the peak of his career.

I thought Thomas looked great myself...from everything I've read he does not have that top-end speed that is going to stretch defenses vertically but from what I saw on Sat he appears to be an excellent route runner and appears to have very sure hands...Also seems to have an excellent connection with Braxton Miller...

I'm pretty stoked to see if this young man continues to progress and improve in the summer....

I saw separation between Thomas and DBs on crossing patterns. He will be a big asset in this new offense as they love to run the short crossing routes. He is bigger than DBs and faster than LBs and Safeties.....a perfect #2 WR.

Agreed I was not saying he doesn't get separation just that he doesn't appear to be a burner...the separation he gets comes from his good route running combined with his above average size and athleticism creating mismatches...definitely perfect #2 WR material!!!

Now that third-round draft pick DeVier Posey has moved on to the NFL, the Buckeyes need someone to step up at wideout. Not one returning player had more than 294 receiving yards last year, and Ohio State ranked a meager 115th in the FBS in passing offense. Thomas could ignite a turnaround. The nephew of Keyshawn Johnson, Thomas collected 86 receptions for 1,756 yards and 21 scores as a senior in 2010 and made 12 catches for 131 yards during the Buckeyes' spring game. Look for him to see plenty of targets this fall.

Michael Thomas provided the perfect fuel for the hype machine.

Coming on the heels of one of the worst passing seasons in the country, Ohio State had made a clear emphasis on improving through the air with a new coaching staff that was looking for playmakers on the perimeter.

A heralded recruit, Thomas stepped onto the big stage at Ohio Stadium in front of an enormous crowd for the first time and didn't back down from the opportunity he was given.

He even provided easy numbers for sake of comparison, making 12 catches in a single afternoon for an offense that didn't have anybody grab more than 14 balls over the entire season a year ago.

But while the anticipation for encores has only grown since Thomas made a splashy debut in the spring game back in April, the freshman is continuing to stress the importance of perspective as he prepares for something a bit more real than an exhibition.

"I still want to remain humble," Thomas said. "It was just a spring game, you know, still have 12 more games against different teams, different competition. So I feel like that was a great opportunity for me, but I feel like I could always do better. I feel like there?s room for improvement, and if I keep working, I feel like I can keep everything going.

"I just try to keep working hard. I don?t let it all get to my head."

COLUMBUS ? Michael Thomas doesn?t want to be remembered as another spring game star at Ohio State.

His aspirations are much larger.

He wants to leave his mark on the game of football, the way his uncle did ? first at USC, and then in the NFL for 10 seasons with the New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers.

?He?s my dad?s brother,? Thomas said of his uncle, 3-time NFL Pro Bowler Keyshawn Johnson.

?I talk to him a lot. He's always giving me pointers and things to work on. Just stay humble, and things like that.?
