Joey Galloway Reacts To Release On Sirius Radio
Posted By Anwar S. Richardson at Feb 25, 2009
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Joey Galloway appeared on ?The Red Zone? on SIRIUS NFL Radio, which is hosted by Solomon Wilcots and Gil Brandt.
Here is a transcript of Galloway?s interview (provided by the show):
Host, Gil Brandt: ?Was it a surprise to you because I still think you?ve still got a lot of gas left in your tank. You keep making those big plays and scoring TDs.?
Joey Galloway: ?I wouldn?t say it was a surprise, especially with the way the season went for me last year in Tampa. I fully understand that when you sit down and start making business decisions that sometimes guys don?t fit into what you plan to do. So, as part of this business, today is my last day in Tampa and I?ll look for a new team.?
Host, Solomon Wilcots: ?Do you plan to continue playing??
Joey Galloway: ?Absolutely. I feel great. Physically, at the end of last season, because I didn?t play a lot during that season, I came out probably as healthy as I?ve been in my 14 year career. So I?m pretty excited about what happens next. I?ve started working out, preparing myself, which I always do at this time of year. So I?m looking forward to it and I feel great physically, mentally. I?m looking forward to the new challenge. So we?ll see what happens.?
**********************************
On his future:
Joey Galloway: ?I haven?t really had a chance to sit down and look around and think about teams. I?ve been fortunate to play for three great organizations in my career and as far as teams out there I?m just looking to play for somebody that hopefully wants to have a chance to win some football games, has a pretty good nucleus of veteran guys that are looking to go to the next level. So for me it?s not going to come down to certain coaches or maybe certain players. It?s going to come down to, I?d like to go to a team that?s looking to win something, heading in the right direction.?
Galloway: ?Nobody?s out of the mix and that is one of the wonderful things about the NFL. Nobody would have picked the Cardinals to get to the Super Bowl. Each and every season it just seems like there are different teams that come out of nowhere and are able to become good football teams. So that makes it wide open and that makes it exciting for the fans, for the players, for the coaches, for everybody involved. It keeps it exciting. Believe me, I?ve been in it for 14 years and I have not caught on to that shooting star team yet so maybe this is my chance.?
Veteran WR Joey Galloway visits Patriots

The Patriots have one of the strongest 1-2 wide receiver combinations in the NFL with Randy Moss and Wes Welker.
But who?s No. 3?
The Patriots explored one possibility on a Wednesday free-agent visit at Gillette Stadium ? veteran Joey Galloway.
The 37-year-old Galloway has traditionally been regarded for his speed and high yards-per-catch average. Over his 14 seasons with Seattle (1995-99), Dallas (2000-2003) and Tampa Bay (2004-2008), he?s averaged 15.5 yards per reception.
Last year, he appeared in nine games, with just four starts, and was limited to 13 catches for 138 yards.
The Patriots' depth at receiver took a hit when Jabar Gaffney -- the No. 3 option in 2008 -- signed with the Broncos.

Galloway latest receiving weapon to visit Bills

With Laveranues Coles signing in Cincinnati, Buffalo wasted no time exploring other potential options to bolster their passing game Thursday as they welcomed free agent Joey Galloway to Orchard Park for a visit.
Galloway (5?11? 197), a 14-year veterean, spent the past five seasons with Tampa Bay where he posted three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons (2005-07) including a career high 1,287 yards in 2005. The veteran deep threat has six 1,000-yard seasons in his impressive career.
Last season however, was the first in eight years in which Galloway suffered a serious injury as a foot ailment forced him to miss seven games in what proved to be his final season with Tampa Bay. The foot will no doubt be under the microscope on any and all of his free agent visits.
In the two seasons prior to his injury-plagued 2008, Galloway averaged better than 17 yards per catch, proving he can still stretch the field even at age 37.
Buffalo has a crowded receiving corps right now with all six receivers on the roster last season under contract with the club for 2009. But Buffalo is looking to add another proven weapon to their passing game and Galloway would demand attention lined up on the outside opposite top wideout Lee Evans.
Wide receiver Joey Galloway to visit Steelers
By The Tribune-Review
Monday, March 9, 2009
Wide receiver Joey Galloway, an unrestricted free agent, is meeting with the Steelers today at their South Side facility.
The 14th-year veteran played sparingly for the Buccaneers last season and caught 13 passes for 138 yards in nine games. Galloway, 37, has over 10,000 career receiving yards.
The Steelers have a need at wide receiver with the loss of Nate Washington, who signed with the Titans last season.
Galloway is the first free agent to visit the Steelers.

Wide receiver Joey Galloway to visit Steelers - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Hines Ward's fellow wide receivers call him "Papa Smurf" because of his age ? he turned 33 Sunday ? and playing experience.
Monday, the Steelers met with a wide receiver who has a couple of years on Ward.
Joey Galloway became the first free agent to visit the Steelers, and the 14-year veteran could fill a void left by the departure of Nate Washington.
Washington, who signed with the Tennessee Titans last week, stretched the field and gave the Steelers a deep threat as their No. 3 wide receiver. Galloway could serve the same role if his age (37) and a foot injury that limited him to nine games last season have not compromised his speed.
The signing of a veteran wide receiver such as Galloway could also give the Steelers a fallback plan if Limas Sweed is not ready to become the team's No. 3 wide receiver behind Ward and Santonio Holmes.
Galloway, who has played for three NFL teams, caught just 13 passes for 138 yards last season for the Buccaneers. The 5-foot-11, 197-pounder had posted three consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons before injuries conspired against him.
Galloway missed training camp last season because of a groin strain. He broke his right foot in the Buccaneers' second game of the season and was not the same player he had been for the Buccaneers.
The Buccaneers cut Galloway and several other high-priced veterans before the start of the free-agent signing period.
Galloway and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin were together for two seasons (2004-05) in Tampa Bay when the latter served as the defensive backs coach.
Galloway has more than 10,000 career receiving yards. He has also averaged 15.7 yards per catch during his career.
The loss of Washington left the Steelers with a need at wide receiver. Sweed, a second-round draft pick in 2008, struggled during his rookie season. He caught just six passes for 64 yards and dropped a sure touchdown pass against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game.
The Steelers had not met with any other free agents before Galloway visited with the coaches yesterday afternoon.
Galloway Makes Sense for Steelers

Limas Sweed is supposed to be the man to replace Nate Washington as the Steelers' No. 3 receiver, but it's never a bad idea to have a backup plan.
The Steelers took a step in that direction by bringing free agent wideout Joey Galloway in for a visit this week. Galloway, who has also visited with the Patriots, could give the Steelers the deep threat they lost when Washington left to sign with the Titans.
Thanks to a foot injury, Galloway caught only 13 passes for 138 yards last year, but in the three years before that, Galloway has more than 1,000 yards receiving per season. More importantly, he averaged over 17 yards per catch in 2006 and 2007.
At this point, the 37-year-old Galloway can't be depended on to be a starting receiver--he battled injuries all last year and played in only nine games. And at this point in his career, he's not really comfortable running intermediate routes over the middle. But he still has his speed, which means he can run the deep routes that Washington ran last year. If he can show he still has speed, Galloway would seem like an excellent signing. With Sweed on the roster, the Steelers would be able to limit Galloway's snaps to try to help ensure he stays healthy, but he could be the perfect magnet to draw off some deep safeties, giving Santonio Holmes and Hines Ward the room they need to catch the short and intermediate routes.
Signing Galloway wouldn't mean the Steelers have soured on Sweed--he has more potential as an all-around wide receiver than Galloway does at this point in his career, but it would be foolish to not have a backup plan in case Sweed's can't lose his case of the drops.
