Elder 2013 WR Joe Ramstetter going to Ohio State as a preferred walk-on

Elder 2013 wide receiver Joe Ramstetter is going to Ohio State as a preferred walk-on, according to Elder coach Doug Ramsey.

Ramstetter, who is 6 feet 3 and 200 pounds, was an Enquirer Division I all-area selection this past season. He had 51 receptions for 1,005 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns. He was first-team all-GCL South.

Ramstetter had signed with the University of Dayton for baseball, but changed his mind and opted to play football, according to Ramsey. The Elder coach made some calls including to Ohio State assistant Kerry Coombs. The Buckeyes were interested and offered Ramstetter the preferred walk-on opportunity.

Ramstetter also spoke with Miami University, Michigan State and Georgia Tech too.

Dang, we were spoiled last summer with "Training Days" and getting to see the Black Stripe ceremony on video (especially an emotional scene with Bogard). Hopefully we'll get a little more insight on how Joe earned the honor of first this year. Either way it's an exciting new tradition.
