WR Jeremiah Smith (Official Thread)

Just sayin': I would really like to see him win it; but he has 2 things going against him:

1) QBs and RBs have won a lot more Heismans than WRs.
2) His best chance of winning might be his Senior year and he'll probably opt for the NFL after his Junior year.

Obviously we have to make it through the year and see, but you are right that it is a trophy for QBs/RBs. JJ might be an exception to that rule in the (presumably) 3 years he will be here...so I can see what RJ is saying.

But a Biletnikoff is really possible (Egbuka will be right there most likely). Crazy to say for a true frosh, but he is that good and the iconic plays keep stacking up. Lets not jinx it though, too early in the year.

I'm excited to see how JJS plays in the biggest games the first of which, obviously, will be this weekend and how he manages hitting (or if he even hits) the freshman fatigue wall 2/3s of the way through the season. I'm inclined to think that he has nothing but a near vertical trajectory, were it graphed, but hope that if he does hit some snags, that he'll get some patience from the fan base to work through them.

OSU has so many weapons he won’t have the numbers for Heisman. Everybody loves the Boise State RB … but he’s not the best RB in college football. He has the best situation..put our RBs there they would preform too.
Your point that we have too many weapons for anyone to win a Heisman this year is well taken, only one football right? But Jeanty is off the charts good. Probably a debate to be had in another thread though.

Could JJ be in NYC for the ceremony? Yes. Will he win it? Odds are against him historically, but we have a TON of football to be played. I will just enjoy his play for now.

He's not even a shoe in for the Biletnikoff so I'd say there is zero chance of him winning the Heisman this year. Ryan Williams is also giving him a very strong run for his money on the best freshman in the country so let's not get too far in front of our skis.

Could he win it before he leaves Ohio State? He could but he'd need phenomenal numbers to continue every single season if not improved and he'll need some sort of "extra" to happen like returning punts or kicks because I don't see him playing Defense. Possible couple wildcat situations or more rushing TDs maybe even a couple WR passes on doubles or end arounds? There are options but like its been mentioned, hard for a WR to win it.
