WR Jayden Ballard (transfer to Wisconsin)

SKULL SESSION: JACK SAWYER EMBRACES EXPECTATIONS, JAYDEN BALLARD IS UNDERRATED, AND DRUE CHRISMAN TOPS A BOTTLE FLIPPING CHALLENGER

HOLD THAT TIGER.
My favorite recent recruiting trend is the one where Ohio State takes the best receiver in the class and then another guy who is likely massively underrated.

We're waiting on Emeka Egbuka to fulfill that first part, but we've already got that second part figured out...

STOCK CLIMBING -- Jayden Ballard, committed to Ohio State

When we started comprehensively looking at film, measurables and track and field testing for this class, not many prospects had the profile of the Washington (Ohio) Massillon standout who has been committed to the Buckeyes since June 2019, the second pledge in Ryan Day and company’s No. 1 ranked recruiting class. Ballard is certainly one of the jewels and he’ll jump over 50 spots into our Top50 in the latest release.

On film the 6-foot-2, 175-pound Ballard shows terrific ball skills, and unique ability to accelerate out of his cuts. He stretches the field, he easily separates from defenders and he’s one of the fastest players in this recruiting class.

The latter point there is documented. When looking at Tracking Football, their database says his 10.89 mark in the 100m dash is better than 96 percent of the 2021 prospects in their database and better than 83 percent of their receivers list (7,237) all-time. And we’re talking about a sophomore time with that last stat. That time is just .04 behind the time Chris Olave ran in 2017.

Next year, there's a very real chance that everyone in Ohio State's receiving corps is a former top-100 player coming out of high school. That's so absurd that it sounds made up, but here we are.

Update: The latest 2021 Top247 recruiting rankings are out and Ohio State commitments are all over the rankings - and did very well overall. The future Buckeye risers were led by wide receiver Jayden Ballard who bolted up a whopping 63 spots from No. 108 to No. 45.
