WR Jalin Marshall (Edmonton Elks)

Nah I don't think so. We'll be young but I still feel we'll be more talented than that 2008 team from top to bottom. Plus OU next year won't be in the same zip code as that loaded USC squad. There's also the fact that you shouldn't trust Big Game Bob.
Stability at QB/leadership will make a huge difference, too.

As far as Jalin, I'm going to miss him-and while I don't know his draft projection, he will do well in the league with the ball in his hands. Regardless of competition, he was always dangerous. Some athletes don't show well when there's a lot of speed on the field, but JM could hang with the best of them.

A guy that I just assumed would be back. Wish him the best.
His combine workout will greatly increase his stock I believe. Man this time of year is depressing.
Assuming he performs well. Only 35 receivers drafted last year, and there are 20 to 30, maybe more, receivers that could perform better in the combine. Looking at some of the top WR coming out, there is no way I'd put him in the top 20. Head scratcher.

I wonder if Jalin had his mind made up prior to entering the season that this would be his last, or prior to entering college that he would only be here for three years. Because with the redshirt season and only having two years to showcase his talent, you'd think his draft stock really could have benefited from one year where he was "The Guy." Last year, he put up decent numbers, but played a supporting role to Thomas, Smith and Spencer; this year he played more of a key role (although put up similar numbers, slightly down a bit, oddly enough), but still in Thomas' shadow.

Receiving stats:

2015: 36 receptions, 477 yards, 5 TDs
2014: 38 receptions, 499 yards, 6 TDs

I think everyone pretty much everyone should go after 3 if they have any future at the pro level. Start your clock and ultimately if you can play you'll make it. If you can't you won't. There aren't really any sleepers anymore who need to produce to open eyes. I don't think Jalin would have put up huge numbers next year if he came back anyway. He was always going to be a guy who needed to do well in the combine and even then would be a mid-round pick. Plus there's the bucknuts guys always saying "some guys just don't want to be in school" when they refer to Jalin so maybe it wasn't a 100% football decision for him.

Agreed with everything you're saying except for this point. There definitely are still late-bloomers and sleepers who do need to produce in their SR season to be scouted. If you are an NFL talent at a big program, there isn't much need to stay for the SR season just to produce the numbers. The body, the ability, the intelligence should be available to scouts by that time. I can't pretend to know what Jalin is deciding upon (like you say, some guys just don't want to be in school).. Further, since the NFL restructured/renegotiated the rookie deals a few years back they don't really give a ton of guaranteed money anymore. And if you aren't nearly guaranteed to be a Day 1 pick, it is typically best to simply start the clock to free agency and make your name known in NFL circles.

It really doesn't matter where you get drafted once you are not a 1st rounder, it is all about what you do to earn that first FA contract, look at a guy like Kurt Coleman (7th round draft pick), who is about to get paid big money after finally catching on with the Panthers and then compare that to Thad Gibson (4th round draft pick) who never did catch on with a team... .

I'd guess he'll be a 4th round pick at best. If he came back as the #1 guy, 2nd round most likely. I think he should have come back, but for all I know he has outside reasons for needing to go now.
Just because he returns doesn't mean he'll increase his stock(I.e. Cardale). Like was stated, has Jalin showed more than Philly Brown? Debatable. And honestly where you're drafted doesn't matter, just make a roster. Philly went undrafted and went to a great spot in Carolina and will make a nice payday when he becomes a FA. Jalin can do the same if he goes to the right team

Counterexample?

Corey Linsley, center

At Ohio State: A two-year starter at center, Linsley started all 26 games the last two seasons and was a first-team All-Big Ten pick in 2013. He was also a team captain as a senior. Linsley became one of Urban Meyer's turnaround stories, developing into a reliable heart of the offense after doing little as a backup his first three seasons in Columbus. One of four senior starters on the offensive line, Linsley was always acknowledged as the strongest player of the group.

Of all the guys leaving early, I think he stood the most to gain by coming back. He still looks pretty raw as a receiver and while he can learn in the NFL and get paid a year earlier, I think back to an economics class in college. On the first day, the instructor showed a chart of someone going into the work force (and finding a good paying job for the circumstances) right out of high school vs someone getting a degree and then getting a good job.

It's no surprise that the HS person makes more and has more even after a few years of what would be college graduation, but the college person will eventually have more earning power. I think that's where coming back for another of eligibility comes into play for football. For some guys, returning isn't going to improve their draft stock much, but for others, it could mean a couple of rounds earlier. In the end, waiting another year might actually net you more money even if you never make it past your rookie contract. I think that's where Jalin might be.

However, Jalin has his reasons and it's been fun seeing him grow over the past two seasons. On punt returns, he's went from, "Oh, crap please catch it!" to, "Alright, let's get a BIG return!"

Maybe this departure will light a fire under Wilson. He knows its his last season and last chance to put it all together and make a name for himself.

I could be wrong, but I thought Wilson's lack of productivity has been more due to him fighting off injuries the past two seasons than it has been due to him not having the fire lit.

I thought he has been available pretty much all season long. I know he broke his foot and was sidelined until the NC game last year. However, little has been mentioned of him after his suspension against VT.
