WR Devin Smith (National Champion)

WR Devin Smith (6-1, 198, 4.55)*
Best known for his one-handed touchdown grab in the season opener last season, Smith finished 2012 with only 30 catches (half of Corey Brown's 60 receptions), but he led the conference with a 20.6 yards per catch average. He is an exciting player who can create with the ball in his hands, but reliability and focus are concerns. Smith has an immense amount of talent, but consistency has kept him from reaching his full potential thus far.

There has never been a positional group of players at Ohio State like Devin Smith, Evan Spencer, Corey Smith, and Corey Brown where I have to stop and think which one is which like I do with these guys. I must be getting old.

I definitely like the talent that's accumulating but Santonio Holmes, Ted Ginn & Anthony Gonzalez was a pretty formidable trio.

When was the last time a team had two fullbacks, one named Branden Joe and the other named Brandon Schnittker?

Ohio State football: Devin Smith has knack for big plays

ADAM CAIRNS | DISPATCH
Devin Smith has 13 career touchdown catches three games into his junior season, but what stands out is his average of 44.3 yards on those plays.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCHFRIDAY SEPTEMBER 20, 2013

  • The development of receiver Devin Smith continues to be a work in progress, Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said, but it seems almost every time the Buckeyes need to pull a rabbit out of their hat, they reach for Smith.

The quarterback throws a deep ball his way, be it Braxton Miller or Kenny Guiton, and magic happens.

“Devin is one of those guys who goes and gets the ball at any cost,” said safety Christian Bryant, who has practiced against Smith for three years.
