OSU notebook: Pryor-to-Posey prevails for two TDs

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
As far back as two years ago, before Terrelle Pryor had even announced he would play quarterback at Ohio State, DeVier Posey was in Pryor's ear, telling him he wanted to be his pitch-and-catch partner for the Buckeyes.
"As high school players, I contacted him and said, 'We need to play together. I want to catch your passes, man,'" Posey said.
Pryor and the Buckeyes passing game might still be a work in progress, but it's obvious the Pryor-to-Posey connection is a solid weld after a 38-7 win over Minnesota yesterday.
Posey caught eight passes for 161 yards, including touchdown rainbows of 62 and 57 yards. A week ago in a loss to Purdue, Posey had nine catches for 81 yards and a TD.
Coming out of Cincinnati LaSalle, Posey had a feeling it could be that way when Pryor, of Jeannette, Pa., joined the 2008 recruiting class.
"We wanted to play college football together," Posey said, adding that the bond was strengthened at the U.S. Army All-American game that year. "There was a chemistry ... and it's just gotten greater."
Buckeyecty4;1575950; said:He's gotta be able to hang onto the ball in traffic. He lets the defender knock the ball away too often in one on one matchups. The positive is that he's only a sophomore, and he's apparently pretty good at getting open since the ball is always finding his hands. He's just gotta learn to catch everything that hits them, and not drop the 2-3 tough catches per game.
Bill Lucas;1576022; said:My son is a basketball player and he used to have problems keeping rebounds. Now when he gets his hands on the ball he immediately rips it down. Same thing with Posey. Once he starts ripping the ball in when he gets his hands on it the issue will go away. JMHO of course.
Jon Spencer's view: Posey's emergence giving OSU a boost
By JON SPENCER ? News Journal ? October 25, 2009
Terrelle Pryor's newest BFF would probably describe DeVier Posey's performance Saturday with some fitting basketball slang: Gophers, you just got posterized!
With career highs in catches (eight), reception yards (161) and touchdowns (two) in Ohio State's 38-7 win over Minnesota, Posey played like he's the one who got a pep talk during the week from LeBron James, not the beleaguered Pryor.
No, LeBron doesn't have Posey on his speed dial -- yet.
"I don't know LeBron, but I think it's so cool that he talked to Terrelle," Posey said. "He's one of my five favorite athletes."
OSU fans might find more comfort in Posey becoming Pryor's favorite target.
In the last two games the sophomore out of Cincinnati LaSalle has 17 receptions for 248 yards and three TDs. For the season he's up to 38 catches for 516 yards and six TDs. With the Buckeyes still in control of their own fate and a huge November ahead, Posey might even put himself in contention for All-Big Ten honors.
"We felt like DeVier was always going to end up being a good player and he's steadily done that," OSU coach Jim Tressel said. "He had a little bit of a hamstring (injury) in the preseason, where he missed a bunch of time and didn't develop quite like we'd hoped early on, but he's going to be a good player.
"He's got a long way to go, but he's a learner. He studies it. He's an explosive guy."
TheIronColonel;1575627; said:At the game, in the first quarter my wife said, "Who is that guy? He's got diarrhea of the hands". In the third quarter, she said "Why haven't they gotten the ball to that guy more often?"
Women.
