WR Dane Sanzenbacher (Official Thread)

First time I have really read up on the kid, and I am impressed. He reminds me of a Dustin Fox - great reads and solid hands. After seeing his pics, lol, it doesnt look like he will be changing much, as far as uniforms go (well, if it were last year at least!).

Good get by the Bucks.

I'm so sick of people throwing out the 4.6 40 thing and implying that he's slow or "he'll make a good possession reciever who runs good routes." That's ridiculous. The dude is FAST. He placed 4th in Division 1 in the 400M with a 48.6. Let me repeat that. He placed 4th in the whole state in a sprinting event. Speed is not a concern with him.

The exciting thing is that he's clearly not just a track star - he has football skills. Every report I've read said that he stepped it up when his team needed him most in the playoffs. Love that. Perhaps the most exciting thing is that OSU offered him just hours after most of the coaching staff had a chance to look at him up close and personal. They made him run around, line up against his peers, and got so excited about his ability that they offered him a scholarship when they first could within NCAA regulations.

I for one am pumped about this kid.

I agree, it doesnt take winning the event to make you fast. Not everyone is Tedy Ginn. Just to be in the state event means you have good speed. To place 4th means you msut have great speed. There is more than just 5 high schools in the state ("even though it may seem like we only recruit from 5-10), so there are thousands of kids he is beating out, and hundreds of them are impressive track/football stars.

This kid has speed, and with Butch Reynolds helping him out, he can only get faster.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
Central's Sanzenbacher picks OSU

Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel departed from conventional golf course etiquette Sunday afternoon to take a cell phone call while out on the course.

The party at the other end of the wireless transmission was Central Catholic standout Dane Sanzenbacher, and he had a message Tressel was anxious to hear.

"I told him I wanted to come to Ohio State next year, and he sounded real excited to hear that," said Sanzenbacher, who led the Irish to the Division II state championship last season as a junior.

"Coach Tressel said it was great news, and I feel the same way. I feel very happy about my choice."

Sanzenbacher, who was a first-team All-Ohio pick last season when he caught 65 passes for more than 1,500 yards and scored 16 touchdowns, said he decided to make the oral commitment now so he could focus all of his attention on preparing for his upcoming senior season with Central Catholic.

He will be able to make a formal written commitment to the Buckeyes during the national signing period in February. NCAA regulations prohibit Tressel from commenting on any recruit until after formal paperwork is filed in February.

"I had thought about it a lot and talked it over with my coach and my family, and I am very comfortable with the decision," said Sanzenbacher, a versatile athlete who plays defensive back in addition to wide receiver. He had 60 tackles and 11 interceptions while playing both ways for the Irish last season.

Sanzenbacher had scholarship offers from several Mid-American Conference schools and from Iowa, but said the Buckeyes felt like the best fit.

"Growing up in Ohio, with a lot of Ohio State fans in my family - well, I just couldn't think of any other place that could top it," he said. "I really liked how they treated me, and once they offered me a scholarship, I feel like I really couldn't turn it down."

You're making me jealous. I guess I'll just have to wait for gamedays at the Shoe to see him play. For those that watched the film, what were his strengths and weaknesses?
Great football speed (as grad indicated, much faster than his track times indicate) and seems to have a knack for finding the seam in the defense. So many times he's running wide open and finding the spots...
