WR Dane Sanzenbacher (Official Thread)

Some Armchair Quarterbacking

Dane Sanzenbacher, who took over for injured Central quarterback Tyler Kleeberger
.

If Tyler K does not return as QB this week, Dane S could remain at that position and be both a passing and running threat. There are also two other QBs who also could start in the same position allowing Dane to return to WR. This would then be an obvious passing situation (or not) that could find him double covered. One of the other WRs,TEs, or RBs would then be open giving TCC the opportunity to advance the ball and score. Mix it up with a strong defense, balanced running attack, half back passes, double reverses and some good old football razzle dazzle, and you would have a total confused opposition defense. My fantasy offensive changes would be unexpected for either of TCCs remaining league games giving them the element of surprise (won't see this lineup on the cable replays). As I sit here watching football this weekend and reflecting on last Friday's win over Clay, I came to the conclusion that Coach D and his staff has a lot more experience than this armchair QB. TCC offense was awesome and they are full of surprises. I can't wait to see what they come up with for Whitmer and St John's. Any thoughts?

Central is led by the reigning City League player of the year, Sanzenbacher. The Ohio State University-bound wideout/cornerback has 38 catches for 753 yards and has scored eight TDs. He has also rushed for 112 yards and completed 6-of-9 passes for 111 yards and a score.

Sanzenbacher was pressed into service at QB last week when junior starter Tyler Kleeberger left the game with a bruised knee after just one series in Central's 33-26 win at Clay.

My High school team today is playing against his team, which is number 1 in ohio. The funny thing is, People are saying we are going to win. I was going to go to the game, but Im going to watch it on BSCN. It is the game of the week in ohio, so should be fun.

CL Title

Central has more points toward first place with the win, St Johns's can't win it even if they win next week. Central picks a lot of points with the Whitmer win. Central Catholic is City Champs. St John's will be a tune up to the playoffs.

Central Catholic's Dane Sanzenbacher hurdles a pile of players en route to a touchdown on a 65-yard play after taking a pass from quarterback Tyler Kleeberger early in the third quarter against Whitmer last night. The score put the Irish up 14-7 and proved to be the game-winner in their 22nd straight victory.

Irish top Whitmer; Central's 22nd straight win nets CL title
By STEVE JUNGA
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

Central Catholic lived up to its nickname last night in a City League football showdown against Whitmer at Waite's Mollenkopf Stadium.

The Fighting Irish took the proverbial punch in the mouth early from an inspired Panther squad, were staggered a bit, but then regrouped and answered impressively in a 28-7 win that mathematically clinched their second straight City championship.

Even if the top-ranked defending Division II state champion Irish (9-0, 6-0 CL) lose Friday night to St. John's Jesuit at the Glass Bowl, the Titans (7-2, 5-1) cannot pass Central under the league's point system.

In winning its 22nd consecutive game, Central passed rival St. Francis de Sales for the longest such streak in CL history. The Knights won 21 straight from 1965-67.

"If this does lock up the City title, that's obviously a great thing for our kids," Irish coach Greg Dempsey said, "getting back-to-back titles. That's a great achievement. But we still have a big game next week with a rival.

"The streak is somethingeverybody else talks about. Our kids' goal is to have the streak at the end of the year [in playoffs]."

Whitmer (6-3, 5-1), which had its six-game winning streak snapped, looked ready, willing and able to end Central's run early on.

The Panthers grabbed the momentum early defensively, when cornerback Apollo Scott intercepted quarterback Tyler Kleeberger's first pass and returned it 26 yards to the Irish 21 just 1:42 into the game.

Anthony Allen (16 carries, 65 yards), the CL's leading rusher, then went eight yards on the next play and then 13 more for a touchdown as the Panthers took a 7-0 lead with 9:40 left in the first quarter.

"They're a very aggressive team on both sides of the ball," Dempsey said, "definitely the most aggressive team we've seen thus far. They hit you hard up front. They had a lot of momemtum. It didn't shock me that they were capable of coming out and doing that."

After the teams locked into a smashmouth defensive war early in the second quarter, Central tied the game with a four-play, 55-yard TD drive. Junior back Cedric Bouyer (17 carries, 80 yards) bolted 42 yards for the score 5:24 before halftime.

Ohio State-bound wideout Dane Sanzenbacher, stymied by the Panther defense before halftime, broke loose and scored what proved to be the game-winning TD 2:39 after the break.

He took a screen pass to the right from Kleeberger (9-of-14 passing, 146 yards) and turned it into a 65-yard sprint to the end zone and a 14-7 Irish lead.

"It was just a little screen out there," Sanzenbacher said. "I got some great blocks around the end, especially from my tight end, Chris Dominiak. He made a huge block and I just made what I could out of it.

"It was kind of relieving. After I was bottled up in the first half, it was nice to be able to do that."

After forcing a Whitmer punt, another screen pass to the right - a 42-yarder to Ray Calhoun - set up Paul Jacoby's nine-yard TD run around left end on the next play with 5:35 left in the third quarter.

"They're No. 1 in the state for a reason," Whitmer coach Joe Palka said of Central. "I thought our kids really played hard and came after 'em.

"But the bottom line was no field position and we didn't move the ball in the second half. We put our defense on the field too much. All the credit goes to Central. That's why they're where they're at."

Jacoby (10 rushes, 81 yards), who has scored 10 TDs in the past three games, added an 11-yarder to seal things with 2:43 left in the game. He was also the leading force on Central's defense.

"This was the most intense game that we've had all season," Jacoby said. "The hype, the crowd - everything was just so intense."

Central, which trailed the total offensive battle 130-92 at halftime, won it 336-166 at game's end. Whitmer QB Donnie Dottei ran for 40 yards and was 9-of-21 passing for 54 yards.

Futurecast for '07 Duo WRs Sanzenbacher & Washington

It's '08 or '09, the Buckeyes are again playing for a National Championship and the big game in the Horseshoe pits Michigan against Ohio State. Brandon Saine and Boom Herron have both scored on two separate 80 yards drives in the first and second quarters. Donnie Evege has intercepted his second of the game one for a TD in the last 30 seconds of the first half. The '07 WRs Dane Sanzenbacher and Taurian Washington have been busy making receptions for the first three quarters and between the two have rolled up 250 yards and one TD each. Now the icing on the cake. The Buckeyes QB hands off the ball to Dane Sanzenbacher on a reverse pass play and he runs to the right and throws a 38 TD pass to Washington in the end zone. OSU wins the game of the year with a dominant running and passing game combined with outstanding defensive efforts. The game ends 42 - 13 and a trip to Pasadena is next to cap off a perfect season.
:oh: Lloyd Carr is quoted at the end of the game saying "Today we were out-coached and out-played by a team, that on this day was No 1." :io:
:osu: It's Deja Vu all over again.

St John's vs The Fighting Irish on Friday

They may have broken "The Curse" of SFS but they are about to feel the "WRath" of the Irish. First of all, The Johnies are way too boastful. Jalil Carter is quoted as saying:

"They weren't ready for us," Carter said. "We've got way too much talent. We shouldn't have lost to anyone this year, but I guess we're putting it all together now."

What happened with Whitmer? Are you ready for a whooping on Friday night? Because you can count on the Irish being ready to unleash the "WRath". WR (Dane Sansenbacher and company)

The Irish will send some of the SJJ's way too talented prepies back to Lickity Split to eat ice cream cones sprinkled with Shamrocks.

You might say, a new curse will be started with the beating that will take place in the Glass Bowl.

Here's one Johnie (see thumbnail) that will find the Shamrocks very tastey this time of year.

I couldn't have put it any better myself. SJJ claims to boast 6 D1 hopefuls (Acoording to their posters on JJhuddle) but I haven't of any of them except maybe Patterson at a Mac or maybe CUSA school and Burkett as a walk on. CCHS works as a TEAM and that's something the Johnies can't do anywhere near as good as us. As for Jalil Carter.. I leveled him freshman year on a kickoff and took his helmet off. Point of pride from our freshman city championship run.

CCHS vs the Johnies

I was happy hear that I wasn't the only one with the same impression of SJJ. I've heard them talk and read the articles and they make me sick. Maybe it's the arrogance or the fact that they didn't make any kind of playoff "with all that talent". I think CCHS will have a tough game Friday since SJJ has nothing to loose but to try to knock off the #1 D II team in the state. I don't think Coach D will go in unprepared. We will be pumped for this game. In my mind, it's bigger than the SFS game for the Irish Knight.

I'm sure the Daner will have some magic for them along with the "Groundhog" and that awesome D.

Go CCHS, Go Irish. Flush the Johnies.
