WR Cris Carter (All B1G, All-American, 8x Pro Bowler, 3x All Pro, NFL HOF)

This one's worth watching - Cris and Spiels discuss the '87 team being affected by Cris being ruled ineligible for the season after accepting money from an agent. They say it's the first time they've talked about it.

They also covered the subject on College Football Live today, which will be re-broadcast on ESPNU at 6:30 ET.

Watched it live this morning. I thought it was even more interesting when they came back after Spielman was gone and Carter was tearing up talking about how mad Spielman was. Good stuff

16. Cris Carter

Viewed as a complete bust in his younger days, Carter didn?t have his first 1,000-yard receiving season until he was 28? then he had eight of them in a row. Nobody knew more about doing all the gritty little things around the end zone ? secretly pushing off, bumping the defender off-balance, cutting one way while looking another, blocking out ? than Carter, which is part of the reason why he led the league in touchdown receptions three times.

Saw an interesting article from everyone's favorite football analyst, Tony Grossi, today. He is of course the Cleveland Brown rep for the HOF voting, so he was outlining what it was like in the room in terms of the discussion about each of the finalists this past year during the voting.

For example, he said it took voters only 10 seconds to discuss Emmitt and only 3 seconds to discuss Rice. On the other hand, the debate over Floyd Little lasted 34 minutes and that of LeBeau lasted 24 minutes, both of whom made it. Others accepted were Randle (8 minutes), Rickey Jackson (15 minutes) and Russ Grimm (24 minutes). Why do I post this here? Because the debate to vote down Cris Carter lasted only 17 minutes...less time than it took them to discuss Andre Reed (26 minutes) Don Coryell (38 minutes) and Charles Haley (25 minutes).

Carter has been on the ballot for a number of years and it took them more time to debate the merits of Andre Reed...not a good sign for his potential induction.

This day in sports history...

in 1998 - Cris Carter (Minnesota Vikings) broke the team record when he caught a pass in his 106th straight game. He also tied Bill Brown's Minnesota record of 76 career touchdowns in the 34-13 victory over the Detroit Lions.

LANDOVER, MD. -- Former Vikings Cris Carter, Roger Craig and Chris Doleman are among the 26 semifinalists for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Carter, the NFL's number two receiver of all time, was one of 15 finalists for the Hall in 2008 but has yet to gain entry. Doleman, a defensive end and linebacker, played for the Vikings from 1985 to 1993 and again in 1999. Craig, a running back, had his best years with the San Francisco 49ers before finishing his career with the Vikings in 1992 and 1993.

While hoping to improve on yesterday's 0-2 wild-card predictions ...

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced this morning the 15 modern-era finalists for this year's class. Two former Vikings -- receiver Cris Carter and defensive end Chris Doleman -- are on the list.

This is Carter's fourth year of eligibility and the fourth year that he's a finalist. Doleman has been eligible for seven years, but this is the first time he's a finalist.

Five first-year eligible candidates -- Jerome Bettis, Marshall Faulk, Curtis Martin, Willie Roaf and Deion Sanders -- are among the finalists.

The 15 modern-era finalists join the two Seniors' Committee finalists -- former Redskins linebacker Chris Hanburger and Rams linebacker Les Richter.

The other modern-era finalists are: Tim Brown, Andre Reed, Richard Dent, Dermontti Dawson, Charles Haley, Cortez Kennedy, NFL Films Founder, President and Chairman Ed Sabol and Shannon Sharpe.

The class will be chosen in Dallas on Feb. 5, the day before Super Bowl XLV.
As for Carter, I agree with most of you that he should be the first to get in of the three receivers waiting to get in. His 130 touchdowns are 30 more than Brown's and 43 more than Reed's.
