Harvey junior wide receiver Chris Fields said he couldn't resist the call of Ohio State.
"I was intending to take official visits to my top five schools after all my offers came in, but Ohio State called me and I said, What's better than Ohio State coaching-wise and in atmosphere?' It all came together," he said.
On Tuesday afternoon, Fields accepted a scholarship offer almost immediately after it was made by OSU football coach Jim Tressel.

Fields is a lifelong Buckeyes fan, but said there were other more influential factors, including the relationship he has built with Ohio State assistant coach Taver Johnson. "We have a good relation ship and that's the most im portant thing," Fields said.
Fields (6-1, 180 pounds) is the top-ranked junior wide receiver in Ohio and the 81st-ranked player in the nation overall, according to rivals.com.

Chris Fields believes in the adage of look before you leap. That's why it was deceiving yesterday when it appeared he couldn't wait to become the seventh commitment to Ohio State's 2009 football recruiting class.
The receiver from Painesville, Ohio, did make his pledge moments after getting the scholarship offer from OSU, but he said his reaction was not knee-jerk.
"It was all planned out," Fields said.
Fields, 6 feet 1, 181 pounds, already had offers from Penn State, Illinois and Kansas, among others. He had wowed many with his showing last week at the National High School All-Star Combine workouts at the Cleveland Browns' facility in Berea, Ohio, where he ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash and had a vertical leap of 38 inches.

The moment of truth came Tuesday morning for Chris Fields.
With Ohio State head football coach Jim Tressel on the other end of the phone, Harvey High School?s junior wide receiver faced a decision about his collegiate football future: Make a verbal commitment to the Buckeyes? recruiting class of 2009 or take some more time and weigh some of the other hefty offers he?s been receiving lately.
With Red Raiders coach Devlin Culliver sitting in the room, Fields excused himself and put Tressel on hold briefly.
?He put the phone on pause, turned to me and said, ?Coach, what do you think??? Culliver said. ?I said, ?You want to go to Ohio State, right?? He said, ?Yes.? I said, ?Then tell (Tressel) you accept,? and that?s what he did.?

Chris Fields has known all along where he wanted to play college football.
So when Ohio State made an offer Tuesday morning, Fields wasted no time in accepting.

Harvey's standout junior wide receiver made a verbal commitment to continue his career at OSU. After receiving official offers from Division I programs such as Akron, Illinois and Kansas - and garnering interest from several other big-name schools - the 6-foot, 181-pound All-Ohioan chose to stay close to home and become a Buckeye.

Fields was in Coach Devlin Culliver's art class when OSU assistant Taver Johnson called to offer a scholarship to Ohio State. Fields said Culliver handed him the phone and said, "It's Coach Johnson. He says he's got good news. If they offer, you better say yes."

Fields said he broke into an ear-to-ear smile when he heard Johnson's words and quickly accepted.

I thought the same thing when I watched his film from ScoutingOhio on page 1 of this thread. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Chris as our kick and punt returner as soon as he shows up on Campus. With all of the talent we are stacked with, our special teams may end up being crazy. :)

He is the ninth member of Ohio State's 2009 recruiting class and the first wide receiver to commit.
