WR Caleb Burton (transfer to Auburn)

If no one underachieves and perfectly matches their ranking:

There's nowhere for the any of the true frosh to play except WR6, and it's pretty normal for a true frosh to be behind a lower ranked veteran. It's extremely normal to have a guy like X be a major contributor. It's an issue when you lost Wilson, Olave, JSN and Fleming to the NFL or injury and suddenly your 5th WR Ballard and 6th WR Johnson are rotating to be the third WR in regular passing formations.

There are only 2 spots in the 2 deep available next year, and there's a strong argument that they have three 5 stars coming in, and that's if you ignore Rodgers who is no slouch either.

It will be very normal for most of the current true frosh to have to grind to play heavy minutes before year 3.

And when they're veterans, they have a much better chance of keeping 2024 5* Jeremiah Smith as a talented guy coming off the bench, despite being arguably the most talented WR on the 2024 roster (if they get him). That's something they can accomplish with decent odds. They had next to no chance of doing that to Harrison or Egbuka or Fleming, and slim chances vs Ballard.

A one-time five-star recruit in the class of 2022, Burton finished the 2022 recruiting cycle ranked as the No. 132 overall prospect and No. 21 wide receiver in the class, but he still arrived at Ohio State with plenty of hype. Following in the footsteps of fellow Texas natives Garrett Wilson and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Burton hopes to make a similar impact in Columbus, and there are plenty of believers that he will.

“He's just so electric,” freshman quarterback Devin Brown said in February. “He just has a big frame and catch radius. To be honest, I did not expect him to be so smooth, and he's just so twitchy.”
