"Worst sports fans in America"

People need to realize that we are going to an athletes "office" when we go to a game. No other profession besides athletics to the workers suffer from such mental abuse.

Still reminds of the great Seinfeld episode where Jerry goes to the workplace of someone who heckled him and starts booing them.

"That's gold Jerry, Gold!"

I am all for Booing the opposing player and then there are some players who just act like asses and need to be booed. But the wells comment was over the line. he was in the bull pen warming up and it was a personal attack about his family and that is just to far.

Cleveland fans are just over the top in general. On a side note.....does anyone know how you stop a fight anywhere else in Ohio? You just yell you don't live in cleveland, and the fight stops. I have seen it used at least on three different occasions

Ask buckeyegrad, he read a list of entertainers' favorite teams and Elton John was the only entertainer/actor who chose the Bengals.

I guess Sir Elton is nothing but a front-running pansy. The article I read about him being a Bengals fan was from around 1990 or 1991, before the Bengals downfall. Which if this is the case, probably Les Nesman is the biggest celebrity to be a Bengals fan these days.

How about Dan Patrick or Kirk Herbstreit? :)

grad wasn't it you that told me about the guy in the wheelchair at the browns game a few years ago that was wearing a eddie george jersey, and some browns fan jumped in his fan and started screaming about I bet you wish you could walk like eddie george.

NFL gets serious about fan conduct

The NFL is getting more serious about conduct in the stands.

This year, its teams are requiring any fan who gets ejected from a stadium to take a four-hour online course before they are permitted to come back into the facility again.
The course, designed by psychotherapist Dr. Ari Novick in tandem with the MetLife Stadium security director Daniel DeLorenzi, focuses on alcohol abuse, anger management and crude behavior. A handful of teams have used the course over the past couple seasons, but this summer, as part of a review of their best practices, every team decided to enforce the course on offending fans this season.

"For decades, some fans have believed that when they put on the jersey of their favorite player on their favorite team and they enter a stadium, they can behave any way they want," Novick said. "This program was designed to say to people, 'We want you to have fun when you come to a game, but you have to understand that your actions can affect people and there are rules to abide by."

The program is an extension of the NFL Fan Code of Conduct that the league implemented in 2008 to better control unruly fans by threatening to revoke ticket privileges for future games.

Novick said when fans get ejected from a game this year, they will be sent a letter that encourages them to apologize to the team and complete the course. If they fail to meet the requirement, and they are caught on stadium property, they are told they could be arrested for trespassing.
Not only do fans have to take the course if they want to come back to the stadium, they have to pay for it, too. Costs vary by team. The Detroit Lions and the Atlanta Falcons charge the least at $50, while the New England Patriots charge a league-high $100. When a fan completes the course, Novick's company forwards that information to the club.

I'd rather be surrounded by a bunch of douchebags with pink popped collars than a bunch of douchebags who can't hold their liquor.

My point was that people who could care less about a team playing are going to be the only ones at the game. It is a fine line between good fun and extremely drunk Cleveland/Pittsburgh fan trying to fight you after the game.

In all honesty, I was pretty drunk when I typed that last night. I rarely go to games anymore because they are too damn expensive and I have a better time with friends/family in the comforts of my own home and a 52" & 46" tv in front of me.

So you were also in section 403 for Saturday night's Reds game?

Win or lose, I was happy to get out of the stadium without vomit running down the back of my neck.

This makes it sound as if the only people who care about the games are the ones who act in inappropriate ways that will lead to them being ejected from the stadium. Sorry, but there are a lot of us fans who are passionate about our teams who don't need to get drunk, throw objects, swear out-loud so every person in a 20 yard radius can hear us, and pick fights in order to enjoy a football game and show our support for our teams.

I think the NFL does a great job of the in-game product and the entire gameday atmosphere.

I've been to a couple of stadiums (Atlanta, Carolina, Cincinnati, Detroit) and never felt threatened when I cheered for my team. I think the fights that happen are few and far between and I think people claiming that it's keeping them away from attending in person are telling half truths.

NFL gameday costs are prohibative, there is no other way to put it.
I don't mind paying $60-80 bucks per ticket, but $9.00 dollars for a large beer or $8.00 for a large soda?
GTFO - that's highway robbery.

I would be anxious to see the reaction if a team took a stand against outragous concessions pricing. I bet the fans would rave with approval.

Most of the fights are in the cheap seats where the ghetto folk sit and out in the parking lots.
