World Cup - England vs USA (Sat 2:30 ET, ABC)

Sorry if I sound unpatriotic - and I am certainly rooting for the good guys.

But IMO the US is like a porn starlet working the last 30 seconds of her scene.

But that's OK. The rest of the world can dance and celebrate their superiority over the US in soccer and continue to ignore the fact that 99.99% of the top athletes in the US play some other sport.

They just do it to remind everyone how much more civilized and cultured the rest of the world is compared to ugly, violent Americans.

Harsh.....I do happen to know my father...lol. But kinda agree with you. We aren't too good at any sports - we just invent them for other people to beat us at. The problem is England has a pop of maybe 50 millon and we participate in a ton of different sports which dilutes the impact we have in any one area - we are never going to be world class if you look at the demographics. Anyways, this game is a lottery. I can't call it. It'll be interesting to see what sort of reception Tim Howard will get back on Merseyside in August! Best of luck guys, hopefully we both get to go through the first round. Shuffleboard???.......jeez. :)

I share this sentiment as well.

The fact is, this tournament is a nice summer sports diversion for me. If it was fall, I would barely notice it. I don't think I'll ever understand the world's fascination with "futbol", and I'm thankful to live in a country with - in my eyes - a far more interesting brand of it.

But I do relish the possibility of beating the world at their own game. To lose in soccer to the Americans would send some nations into collective mourning. That thought amuses the hell out of me. :biggrin:

Ricardo Clark will start in the midfield. :smash:

This makes me furious. I understand wanting a physical presence against England, but if you want a destroyer/defensive-minded player in the midfield, you HAVE to go Maurice Edu.

Clark is a red-card waiting to happen and he kills our possession. Edu is far more skillful and even better defensively, having some experience as a center back.

Pissed if this is true.

Only real complaint, though.

Maybe Buddle over Findley, but those are too similar of styles (Jozy/Edson) and I like Findley to stretch/tire the D, then bring in Gomez/Buddle later.

Steve, they just said on ABC that the reports that Americans outnumber the English are very false. Just what I heard. Don't know the truth...we'll see.

What's the atmosphere around the World Cup like in South Africa???
