Here’s the rundown:
United States — 2/1
Dominican Republic — 5/2
Japan — 3/1
Venezuela — 9/1
Puerto Rico — 10/1
South Korea — 10/1
Cuba — 18/1
Mexico — 25/1
Netherlands — 25/1
Canada — 66/1
Chinese Taipei — 80/1
Australia — 150/1
China — 150/1
Colombia — 150/1
Italy — 150/1
Israel — 200/1
Who’s going to put down 20 bucks on Israel and hope for the huge upset?
As you can see, the U.S. has a slight edge against the Dominican team, which won the 2013 WBC and features a number of notable MLB names. They’re no slouches. Just look at this list: Manny Machado, Adrian Beltre, Robinson Cano, Nelton Cruz, Johnny Cueto and Carlos Martinez.
Japan made it to the semi-finals in 2013 and won the first two Classics. It would probably rank higher here if it hadn’t lost Shohei Otani (aka the Japanese Babe Ruth) because of injury. Puerto Rico will be an interesting team to watch as its roster has a number of young stars, including Carlos Correa, Javier Baez and Francisco Lindor plus veteran Carlos Beltran.
