I forgot something that used to drive me nuts years ago when I worked for others.

The old - write me regular memos summarizing things.

Then you wonder if they really read them so you test out this theory by putting small, off-topic notes in them. One place I worked only one superior would ever catch them.
It’s like doing project status reports that no one ever reads. What do you mean the project is red? It’s only been that way in the status report for 3 months, but hey….

I intentionally put in the workbook for this project on a page labeled status - IF YOU READ THIS, THE IT DEPARTMENT WILL BUY YOU LUNCH - that was 3 weeks ago..... i've not gotten a single phone call

Been in my current position and department for going on 4 years now. New leadership above me. Shit hits the fan last week and they get together and brainstorm ideas to prevent the issue from happening again.

Every single suggestion are things I've already done and do. When I tell them this, its me being negative??? I should try them! I explain that I do them and have and will continue to. Its not that im saying their ideas are stupid. Im saying I already do these things. This only frustrates them further.

that sounds about right. i've been in IT for 25 years, i've only been at this company for about 3 years now, I was hired to replace my boss when she retires in 27, but I've spent the majority of my career working in various aspects of healthcare IT - so I have a TON of experience when it comes to EMR systems, HIPAA, ect. Any time I try to make suggestions I always here from most people "well, we've been doing this for years this way", to which my standard reply has become, yes, that doesn't make it right. I had to explain to a social worker, how if she did the same process with 2 minor changes, her daily 2 hour task becomes a daily 45 minute task. She about had a breakdown when she started doing the math about how much time she wasted in the last 20 years :slappy:

Stupid people. Seems to be a lot more of them getting hired in that past 5 years.

New Employee: Why didn't I get paid for last week?
Me: Because you started yesterday and won't get paid for those hours until next pay day.
New Employee: I was hired a week ago.
Me: Yes, and your start date was yesterday when you first clocked in, which will be paid out next payroll.
New Employee: But I was hired a week ago.
Me: ...... (closes eyes and shakes head) ... (deep breath) Let me explain how this works.....

That convo has happened way too much lately.

I had a kid ask me if Halloween was a paid holiday. I said no but you get a half day for trick or treat. He said do I have to come in late or can I leave early?

Trying to explain floating holidays might as well be talking to a plant.

Then there's the guy that started this week. I work for a retail/dtc clothing company in the DC. He said "I know a guy who works here. He told me I should be a model. Like for you guys. I should model clothes" to which i replied "lucky you! We have scouts that walk thru the warehouse every fiscal quarter looking for talent" he says "REALLY"??!!! I said "of course not where the fuck do you think you are"

I find myself thinking that we are all the descendants of the best competitors and survivors their age had to offer. The best and smartest that could out do soon to be dead people in the competition for food, shelter, avoiding danger finding a mate etc

Then I look at some people and wonder “now how in the fuck did you get here?” Clearly your ancestors were as simple, childlike and doltish as you. Possibly worse. How did they avoid a sabertooth tiger or getting caught up in a wheat thrasher?

My pet theory is that they hid underground for millennia and have only recently emerged and in so doing have signaled the end of it all. Any crisis of any sort and we are just proper fucked.

we added a floating holiday for admin staff, good lord you would have thought it was like trying to explain quantum physics or something. HR pitched it as "we will allow you to take Presidents day as a paid holiday, if you choose to work, you can take another day off and label it as floating holiday" - pretty straight forward, but there were department managers who simply could not wrap their heads around it
