That has to be the worst display of linebacking I've seen in a long time. Fred P. should be playing at Mt. Union. Robert R. is lost at the middle spot, B. Carpenter and AJ Hawk has been absent from most running plays. scUM exposed a serious weekness. Linebackers who don't stay home and over pursue. How many times could the Buckeye "d" allow that fade screen to work? It is an embarressing performance. They seemed unprepared and you'd think Coop was back on the sidelines

Uh, Freddy didn't play today because he was injured. It was Hawk, Reynolds, Carpenter. They didn't have their best game but you have to give some credit to scum. They set up the screens nicely and were able to get people out on our backers. Their o-line did a great job blocking our d-line was plain outplayed. The only armchair things I can think of is that you would have thought Dantonio would adjust better to the screens and maybe do some all out blitzing when we were behind to try to rattle Navarre. I would have like to have seen us unload everyone on Navarre and play man-man a couple of times. We might have given up a big play but we did that today anyway.

Edit: from what I have read on the other board Pagac might have been in but I didn't notice him. He must not have had that many snaps.

Not much depth today... we had turbo playing the Mike (not his position), Carpenter (a second stringer) playing SAM, and Hawk a 1st stringer playing Will... the 1st and 2nd string Mike players were out... our guys played hard, and didn't have much rest, with the rotation being almost nonexistant.... It didn't help that we as a team didn't tackle well, and some blown plays by the secondary.... The D plain had an off day. Taking a while to get calmed down (read down 21-0), to where the hole was too big to climb out of...

I think Fred P. will be able to play in the bowl, and I'm sure the team will practice the basics (read tackling) before the bowl game...

Lost a tough one... however we'll be back!!

Go Bucks!!

Uh, Yes he did end up getting into the game in the second half. A replay of C.P. runningover right guard and cuttingto the middle CLEARLY shows that it was him playing the middle. He moved to his left, stuck out his right arm and Perry ran through his attempted tackle. What, were you listening to Keith Jackson saying he wasn't playing? You should Know better.

Uh,gogucks7, thanks for,uh, editing your,uh post concerning Fred

I hate to be a pessimist on the LBs, but even JT has made the comment this season that our DL is what makes them look so good. Michigan took that away from us and made the LBs play the run more than they have had to all year. Hopefully it was Perry more than any LB weaknesses. But it really doesn't matter - next year we are stellar.

I have to admit that I've been anxious all year to see Schlegel out on the field. I don't like (generally) to let myself get excited about a new player, but this is one I've already seen out on the field playing I-A football.

Long before he transferred, I was watching an Air Force game during our championship season. I was (and still am) a Navy fan before my introduction to OSU. As many of you know from your own viewing experiences probably, this kid stood out so much in that game (and quite a few others) that I watched, that later when I heard his name being mentioned as a transfer, I knew exactly who they were talking about. He was a force on the field, and I don't care that it was with Air Force, you could just tell that he's a beast.

Then, all I've heard from players, is that this guy is already extremely impressive in their practices and workouts.

Anyway, the point is that I can't help myself, I can't wait to see if he can anchor our LBs, and really bring that squad together. We all know Hawk has all the tools, then we've got guys like D'Andrea, Carpenter, Kerr, Smith, White, Freeman, Arden -- I mean, the whole crew just seems to have a ton of promise.

It's always hard to believe in addition by subtraction, and then there's the guilt that comes from realizing you're kind of digging on 'good' guys like Reynolds and Pagac, but I'm looking forward to that position next year. And it's a good time for it too, because while our DL is still going to be solid, we're losing 3 NFL quality guys there.

I see no reason for bringing down our L/B crew. Even if D'andrea would have been healthy he would not have been the difference. Michigan started thinking about this game 3 seconds after Allen intercepted Navarre's throw last year.

You all knew that we would not quit, and we did make a game of it to come back nicely like we did. But lets face it gents - this was the BIG HOUSE - and to go in thier and try and steal one from them, in a game of this magnitude would have been HUGE. I have been around to damn long to fill my head with grandeur and illusions when we have to travel UP NORTH.

What makes it hurt for all of us, is the fact that this was for the BIG TEN title and thats what was the most important thing in the teams mind and its focus. This has always been what the game is all about. Ever since I've been a little kid going back to 1957.

And the only time I was filled with illusions was in 1969 when I thought for sure there was no way Michigan would beat us that day. Bo Schembecler changed all that in a hurry. Woody was so distraught over that game - he even began to question himself about his ability to ever beat Michigan again. Thankfully he had a great coaching staff who believed in him and the players to back them up. From then on this became the Greatest rivalry in college football. Don't ever try and disect an Ohio State / Michigan football game. It's not worth it. Lets just move on and HOPE for the best in the bowl game or games. Our Buckeyes will be there and so will I. "And in the night of death, HOPE sees a star and listening, LOVE hears the rustle of a wing"

Linebackers

It will definitely be interesting to see who nails down the starting spot at MLB. You would have to think the schlegel has the lead in that race. D'Andrea looked good at times and not so good at times. It will interesting to see if we have more of a rotation at linebacker like we had this year at DL.

If Schlegal lives up to what many expect him to be, he'll leave OSU as the most successful LB since Andy Katzenmoyer. I think that MDA will be shoved to either outside lb or D line. He does not have the MLB instincts that many of the great ones demonstrate. I think that the outside will be solidified with AJ Hawk and Bobby C. on the other end.

Damn.....the spelling police must not have been handing out citations back then.

Yesterday's S&G game didn't reveal much about the linebacker situation. I don't think they were given the chance to do much.

It's going to be hard to be fair when watching them once the season starts as we really got spoiled this past year.
