I have a dilemma, so I'm seeking advice. One of my wife's best friends is getting married the Saturday of the Whisky game. I have vehemently told my wife that I am not going to the wedding, as another friend of mine has offered me a free ticket to the game. She is pissed at me, and says that it is very important to her friend that I am there at the wedding. The other problem is, I have an 11 day old boy (well, he is 11 days old right now anyway), and I don't know what to do with him if she goes to the wedding, and I go to the game. Oh, did I mention my wife is actually in the wedding? Anyways, her mom could probably watch the kid, or go to the wedding with him and my wife, but then I don't believe my wife would speak to me for the rest of the year. Advice?
 
You could do what I did when faced with a similar dilemma.

I went with this... I will go to the wedding and show up at the reception for dinner....after that(and before dinner as well) I will be watching the game. (I was lucky that they had an adjoining bar that was separate from the wedding area - hooray!) I was able to get away and come back around every 20 minutes or so and check to see if she was "having a good time" and "needed anything"

Uh, but I forgot about your kid - so to me that is your excuse. DO THIS - go to the wedding... go to the reception WITH THE KID, and then say after dinner - "he is getting really upset and he doesn't feel well. I'm going to take him home early". Your wife will know the truth, but her friend won't. No harm, no foul.

This seems like a no brainer... you get to go to the wisky game AND you don't have to hear your wife talk to you for a whole year... where do I sign up...? just joking.

Looks like the wisky game is not going to happen... there are great things about marriage, there are also not so good things... this is one of those not so good things...

yeah... this happened to me once...

It was my Wife's sister's wedding... My wife was the Maid of honor... it was during last year's NC State Game... the Wedding was in Philly.

I stayed home.

AKAK - honestly, I would stay home (and have in the past) if the kid wasn't an issue. Problem is, somebody has to watch the kid, and my wife can't get out of taking him to the wedding. So, it's either I go, or her mom goes. I simply can't see a way out of this, as her mom, dad, and her would all be pissed as hell at me. As she put it a minute ago, she understands tOSU football is very important to me, which is why she gives me every fall Saturday to myself. I'll admit, even with having a newborn, she has been great as far as telling me I can still go to all the games, and watch the away games wherever I want. But she can't understand why, if she gives me every Saturday (and has for the three years we've been married and the three we dated), why can't I give her just this one? Damn logic. She's making a question of my priorities..which is higher, my family, or OSU football. Hmmmm. Tough choice, but I figure if I give her this, then I can put it "in the bank" and break it out to go to the NC game in January....

what the hell is with people and weddings during buckeye season? this is like the 10th story ive heard about people missing a game due to weddings. is "wedding" the new excuse everybody uses or are women just cruel bitches and make men get married on buckeye saturdays?

The key phrase is "One of my wife's best friends", as in her friend, not yours. You have no obligation to go, especially if you don't personally know her. As for your infant son, do you have anyone capable of babysitting him? I assume you live fairly close to the stadium and won't be away for more than 6-7 hours. Stand your ground, especially since you've already "vehemently told my wife that I am not going to the wedding".

As a die-hard OSU fan and a wife. I think you are screwed. Go with the wife, but take a portable radio that you can put in your ear for the game. If the game time does not match the wedding, take a cab to the game, watch it and bail as soon as its over to go to the wedding. Everyone is happy and the alcohol you consume will make the wedding more tolerable. Good Luck!!

I hate to tell you this, but I think she's right. Sounds like she has been extremely tolerant of your Buckeye addiction so far, so you may owe her one. and by one, I mean ONE. Should be a valuable 'card' for you to play for the next couple of years too.

That's where the snowball starts...trust me. And if she knows how you love OSU football, it should come as no suprise to her that you won't go to the wedding. What is it with women and weddings?
