Wilma jumps to Cat 5 overnight

WILMA IS UNDERGOING RAPID INTENSIFICATION AND IS CLOSE TO BECOMING A
CATEGORY 5 HURRICANE

As of 2:30 AM EDT Wednesday, Hurricane Wilma had maximum sustained winds of near 175 mph. The storm was centered near 17.0 north and 82.2 west, or about 170 miles south of Grand Cayman. The minimum central pressure was 892 millibars or 26.34 inches or a drop of 53 millibars in about 3 hours.

Hurricane Wilma has strengthened into an "extremely dangerous" Category 5 hurricane, with sustained maximum winds of 175 mph, the National Hurricane Center said today. The hurricane's minimum pressure is 892 millibars -- the lowest pressure observed in 2005.

This would indicate a potential storm surge for the Naples area pf about 30 feet.

882 MB is the lowest recorded pressure EVER in the Atlantic Basin. It's just amazing how fast this thing blew up... the pressure dropped 86mb in 12 hours!
