Williams, Clarett back to college?

Oh8ch said:
One issue with Canada is that many of their fields are on artifical turf and of poor quality (Canadian football does not have the funds we are used to down here). Any player going to Canada risks injury. On the other hand, proving that he can play without injury is the most important thing MC needs to do to improve his draft status.

Rugby, that pretty much covers it for me. One of the biggest issues pro teams have with Mo is his field durability. If he goes up to the CFL for one season and has another injury plagued season, his stock could/would drop even further than it already has. Mo is, in my opinion, better off as an unknown at this point. If he went up there and kicked ass, that would be great for him. But given his struggles with injuries throughout HS and then the ones we know all about from the 2002 season, it would be somewhat surprising if he held up in the 51st state with their bad fields, big ball and crazy round bacon.

I talk from my heart here, as only that I can. I know that I am old guy and my memory serves me well. But I go back to 1957 when i watched Jim Brown run to Daylight.... sort of speaking back then....... and I was amazed at his feats and thought nobody will ever step in his shoes and fill his VOID.

In the September of 2002 I was shocked to see a "young Jim Brown" all over again at OSU running up and down the field, at will and shrugging off defenders with such ease, it made my heart race like never before.

And now it is so very sad,..... to see that we will never have a chance to see if Mo Clarett could have been as Jim Brown, the person who he supposedley said was his "Idol"', will not have a real ligitimate chance to back up that statement, in the way even Jim Brown could have accepted it. The even sadder part of this whole scenario is that Jim Brown himself had suggested for Maurice Clarett to stay in "School One More Year".

God, what a waste of Talent....... that Ohio State University had to experience these past Two Years. Lets Hope that we never have to experience another episode, like this ever again.

No Offense DiHard, but in this world of 5 second sound bites it is refreshing to see folks take the time to make subtle points and state them clearly. I would be devastated if Clarity changed his approach in any way.

Sorry, but an attack on thoughtful prose should not go unchallenged.

Just a point of info... For the post about MoC signing autographs for 10 bucks....that had to be a bargain, because I heard on 1460 that he was signing at 30 bucks a pop. That money whore better have saved up.

I agree with you Oh8ch. Posters that say everything they know about a subject in one or two sentences aren’t making you think. For that type of forum, there is the OZone. Nothing against the OZone, I still check it out almost daily, but I come here for more depth in the discussions. I don’t think that I’d be devastated if Clarity changed his approach, just mildly disappointed.

And Clarity - crazy round bacon? I don't mean to sound untraveled, but what is it?

oops! duh! pizza ham!

Most commonly encountered on eggs benedict. Really though, I just wanted to poke fun at those bloodthirsty tyrants up North.

DiH, you were around for my first 500 posts on Bucknuts, when I averaged just under 2k words per post. Lol. That was Chatty Cathy. This is more Tickle Me Elmo meets Teddy Ruxpin. I have no idea what that means, but I felt like disagreeing. With the choice of talking dolls, not the point.

Oh8 and Mightbe, thanks. Well mild thanks for Mightbe.

--edit--
3yards, you beat me to it by a good 6 minutes! lol, good job.

Mightbeabuck-next time you go out for breakfast, order Eggs Benedict. Easily the best way to enjoy Canadian bacon.(It feels wrong to capitalize Canadian yet leave bacon alone. I've never met bacon I didn't like, but I can't say the same thing for hosers.)

Dammit Clarity, you beat me to it! Stupid "home site advantage"!
I was around for your first 500 posts on BNuts too. I would always log off and read them since they were so long. If it weren't for you, I would have never discovered the work off-line button.

...will Maurice choose to be in a college uniform next year?
People just can't let the dream die.

Maurice has shown no interest in returning to college. From all reports he has not met the requirements for requesting reinstatement (probably because he isn't interested in college football), and what makes anyone think Tressel, Geiger, OSU wants to go to bat for him, and endure all of the inevitable BS that comes along with him/it, given the history of this relationship?

It's over, it's BEEN over, no matter what ESPN or anyone else wants to speculate - Maurice Clarett wll NEVER don the Scarlet & Gray again.

Best of luck to him.

Clarity and others: I'm interested in opinions on why playing in Canada would be a bad idea for Maurice. At this point, wouldn't $200k or whatever they would pay him be worth it? I think he's already proven that he can't work out on his own and he has yet to prove that he can play a full season anywhere. Couldn't he earn back some respect in the Lower 48 by humping ass up there for two years and coming back ready to go? I think that's the route I would go with the supplemental draft looking like a longshot at best.
For starters, the rookie salary is something like 37k a year. I don't know if that's USD or Canadian dollars, but either way it's barely enough for MC's "lavish" lifestyle.

Other than that....

- Their season starts in a month or two. MC is horribly out of shape. He would never be able to get his fat ass into playing condition in a couple weeks.

- Risk of injury on shitty fields, or the risk of completely sucking it up after so much time off. Right now some NFL team will still think he has potential and take a gamble.

I don't know if this was mentioned, but I thought Williams signed some sponsorship deals... if that is the case I don't see how he could go back to school and play ball...

Cleve,

If he doesn't play in the CFL, I don't see a team drafting him until well into the second day... I don't think it is in his best interest to not play for two years, and still have the question of can he last a season... IMO he needs to play in the CFL and prove that he still has it, and that he can hold up for a season...

Thanks for the response, Clarity. My take is that if he's that worried about getting hurt in Canada, he probably shouldn't be playing in the NFL. At least he'd be paid something up there. He'd have to sell a lot of autographs in the next year to earn a living and he has no earning potential outside of football. He needs to do something big to get back into the game. I think his other choice is to spend the next nine months training like a dog with a professional outfit, because I don't see the supplemental draft happening, and I just don't see him doing that. Not to belabor the point too much, but the whole thing is just a monumental waste.

Buckeyehead:

Just to clarify...I have no dream about Clarett coming back to OSU...for me it's the exact opposite, I think the negatives coutweighed the positives. And I know that OSU would never take him back anyway. My question was more whether he would go to I-AA if the NCAA restored his eligibility...that's all.

FWIW on the CFL thing, their minimum slary is roughly 30K a year and their teams salary cap is barely over 2M. They don't publish the players salaries but you can do the math and see he will make 200K if he's lucky. They have 40 man rosters.
