Will Boeckman be Benched?

At first I thought, "Easy money - $1 on that he'll be benched, and the remaining $2078 on that he won't. I'll win either $10,000 or $4156." Unfortunately, only one bet can be made.

Curse whoever spoiled my loop-hole!

So then I kept the $1 in benching him. I won't miss the dollar, and the pay-out would be sweet. But I don't believe I'll get the pay-out. I have gambler's remorse. I'd rather have gone all-in on that he won't be benched.

Meh.

No kidding, it'd be nice if someone would offer a real bet with odds like this that add up to guaranteed winnings. It's hard to decide which odds are more outrageously favorable (the realistic odds here would probably be somewhere close to smack-dab in the middle of what DBB generously set up - 100:1 each way, maybe a little lower). If you bet frequently and have millions, taking a flyer on 10,000:1 makes sense. But if, like me, you rarely bet and have little vcash, 1:1 odds that Jim Tressel's 6th year senior, 2nd year starting quarterback retains his job are just too good to pass up.

I'm not a big vGambler, so I suppose I don't have much room to speak and probably don't really "get it". But... I don't get this...

I'm not trying to twist this thing, and I know it's all in the spirit of fun and lightheartedness... but it strikes me kinda like saying "I personally support the troops" (or our starter) and then voting to cut off funding the military (or conditionally withdrawing support for TB) because the folks "back home" (or the odds) forced me to do it.

Karma...

TIFWIW. Just sayin'... :paranoid:

There's no question that a lot of fans are fickle, and I see what you're saying, but I think there are a couple of key differences. The most substantial one is that all the quarterbacks on the roster are "our troops", so pulling for, say, a Henton breakout is not comparable to pulling for, say, a Sadrist breakout. The secondary difference is that betting on the likelihood of something is not the same as wishing for it. Everyone here would love to see Boeckman have an exceptionally good season, and while I agree that there's something a bit unseemly about excessively parsing Todd's every perceived defect, throwing down a couple of vbucks on outrageously generous odds is not the same as hoping for failure. But sure, if you buy into the concept of karma, abstain from any bet that pits Buckeye against Buckeye.

Is a DUI considered an injury/sickness? If not then I'll have to bet on him being benched. You see. I know almost nothing about Todd Boeckman the man, but I do know that he is from Mercer County. As old as Todd is, and the average age of a Mercer County residents first DUI arrest, I feel that I would be playing very good odds that he won't make it another year without running into the laws of probability. :tongue2:

My vote has nothing to do with Todd's play, would've done the same with any player save maybe 2 or 3.

Yeah, I think it's safe to say that when DBB applies to Vegas for that bookie position, he should probably leave this one off his resume.
