because calls tend to even themselves out by the end. A controversial call one way with 5 seconds left usually doesn't get a chance. That's my belief.

But hey, at least it wasn't in the act of shooting or something. Shame on WSU for not securing the rebound better.

Or maybe that evened it out for some other calls that went against Louisville...

I'm trying to go through the rule if it says if there's a certain time

Other than swinging elbows, I don't think there would have been a clear cut way one guy was getting it over the other. Of course, they could have called a backcourt violation on WSU as well if there were more than 8 seconds too.

found it...nothing about time
Art. 1. A held ball occurs when an opponent places his or her hand(s):
a. So firmly on the ball that control cannot be obtained without undue
roughness; or
b. On the ball to prevent an airborne player from throwing the ball or
attempting a try and both players return to the playing court with both
hands on the ball or the airborne player returns to the playing court never
losing control of the ball.

so they can let it go as long or as short as they want, so by rule, correct call

being quick or not is another discussion

I was thinking this would have been a blowout win by Louisville. The Shockers kept it close and played well. The Buckeyes loss last week doesn't look so bad now. Still should have have been us going the Final Four though.

How about Wichita State wasting 8 seconds to inbounds the ball after a made basket....... Boals even commented on that on twitter.

I never understood that. There should be a rule where if the inbounds team doesn't pick up the ball in 5 seconds it should be a turnover

I think there is in HS. As soon as you're near the ball, the 5 count starts.

I think technically the rule is they are supposed to start the 5 second count when the ball is available to be inbounded. Sometimes the ref will put the ball on the ground in front of the player and start the count if they are recalcitrant to grab the ball, but I didn't see that with the refs and WSU. They shouldn't be allowed several seconds before inbounding the ball repeatedly.

I have not read this entire thread so my apologies if this has been mentioned but I thought that the officiating throughout the entire game was extremely poor for an NCAA semi final game. I have not seen Teddy TV or Hightower do any games since the Sweet 16 began but even those two clowns could have done better than what was on the court last night. Just a very poorly officiated game and neither team could get a flow because of it.

In addition, I think that Ware means more to this Louisville team that anyone, or at least myself, thought. Without him they have to be very careful on defense especially when they are in the full-court pressing mode. They were extremely lucky that their walk-on player was able to hit those jump shots from the corner when Silva was sitting on the pines.
