http://buckeyextra.dispatch.com/con...aches-in-line-for-big-bonuses-with-title.htmlLouisville coach Rick Pitino would make $425,000 extra this year — on top of a $5.7 million pay package — by leading the Cardinals to the men’s NCAA basketball championship.
Pitino’s bonus for winning the NCAA Tournament represents about 70 percent of the $600,000 annual salary that university president James Ramsey is getting this year.
Pitino, 60, isn’t the only coach with a big payoff at stake. Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall, who has a $1.25 million salary, can make as much as $576,000 in bonuses for a national title, while Michigan’s John Beilein, who earned $1.8 million this season, can make as much as $175,000 extra.
“There is no fiscal sanity,” said Dave Ridpath, associate professor of sports management at Ohio University and president-elect of the Drake Group, a network of college professors who advocate for academic integrity in sports. “You are paid to coach and are expected to be competitive. Why are you getting a bonus for doing something that is really expected?”
Employment contracts were obtained by filing open- records requests with the universities. Syracuse, the other Final Four team this year, is a private institution and not required by law to provide employee contracts.
Frankly, I do not think that the Shockers have a chance of shocking today. This could be a big time blowout for a Final Four game.I've got mixed feelings on this game.
On one hand, it reflects somewhat well on OSU if the team they lost to has success against other top teams (and not well if the team they lost to gets carpet-bombed).
On the other hand, I'm a spiteful fan, and want to see the team that knocked OSU out be punished for their transgression.
If Wichita State tries to run with Louisville, it will be a big mistake because that is what the Cardinals are best at doing. The key to this game, if there is any, will be how easily Wichita State can get the ball across midcourt without turning it over against the Louisville press.kippy1040;2325598; said:Sometimes teams mature and grow from out of knowhere during march madness. For the shockers knocking off #1 seed Gonzaga really gave them a boost of confidence and then in eliminating our Buckeyes.
Just like Ohio State going on a 10 game win streak after the loss at Wisconsin and going on to win the BIG10 Tournament was a growth factor especially the way Scott, Thompson and Ross came on for us during our run to the final four. When we beat Arizona i figured we would get there but our Buckeyes came up short.
Louisville is going to be hard to defend. Thier transition game and speed may be the deciding factor. If Wichita State can run with Louisville and have good game at the 3 ball then it could be "game on" I would like to see that kind of game tonight.
Thinking the same thing. This sucks. I really thought the Bucks would be playing in this one, and fucking scUM is in the second game. :ohwell:
