Why is michigan on most people top 5 preseason list?

Has anyone seen them bastards play in the last couple of months? We kick their asses and an overrated Texas team beats them in the Rose Bowl. They lose their best O-linemen and best offensive weapon. The lose their best DB on an average at best defense.

WTF!! Why does the media love these guys so much? I'm tired of them being rated so high. I guess nobody has been watching the Bowl games.

We have more returning starters than they do and we lose less key personnel and they are ranked anywhere from 7-12 spots higher than us in every pre season poll I have seen.

Being ranked low is what screwed Auburn out opf the Championship game this year. They had to climb the polls and they didn't have enough to get to #2.

Thank god we are gonna play a top 5 and a top 10 team in the first 4 weeks. If we win both those games we should be #2 in the country.

See, but scUM is ALWAYS in the preseason top 5, much like Texas, and they usually don't end up there.

Also, I guess I can see it, they have their QB, RB, and Breaston back... and while I don't think they will be that good, I can see the media seeing those three and thinking they will be...

A large number of analysts don't understand that you can't win in the big10 like you can in the Pac10 or Big12. Texas, OU, Cal are examples of teams that don't play defense but are extremely hyped. They would (and most have) struggle when they are required to play defense (to be exemplified in the 2nd game against tOSU).

That is why I have a lot more respect for conferences like the big10 and more recently the SEC (where its not just run and gun anymore, LSU, Georgia, Auburn all play defense). The ACC also does a pretty good job on D.

On paper scUM is always impressive-they simply blow games they shouldn't-Oregon, ND-and then get their asses handed to them by Tressel.
Seriously, their offense should be potent next year. Yes, Edwards did help Henne out a lot, but he is an up and coming talent. Add in Hart, Breaston, and Avant and the scUMers are loaded at the skill positions. Their line is always solid-as much as I hate them, I am impressed with their ability to consistently develop 1st and 2nd round quality NFL linemen on a consistent basis.
Their D has a fair # of starters coming back as well. They deserve a Top 5 ranking, although we should be ranked higher than them,IMO.

I agree STX

When will fans and commentators realize Michigan runningbacks are products of their offensive line!!! They are the biggest busts in the NFL.

Henne just threw the ball up for grabs and Edwards came down with it. Avant is good and Breaston is decent. They are not even close to Edwards talent.

Their defense sucks!!! When your best DB is Marlin Jackson(he and Shazor are the most overrated DB in college football) They better hope Shazor doesn't leave because their secondary is already horrible.

Their linebackers are as slow as i've ever seen a Michigan LB corp.

They lose Finley their punter. Molesko is gonna be good but theirs a big difference between having all day to kick in H.S. and having a second or two to kick in college.

They are a top 20 team not a top 5 team...no way in hell

If OSU doesnt start in the top 10 then something is very very wrong...

Yeah, Tyrone Wheatley, Anthony Thomas and Justin Fargas have done absolutely nothing their entire careers. Chris Perry might as well retire before next season.

Wheatley started several games for the Raiders this year. Fargas is also with the Raiders but he's been hurt. Thomas had a good 3-4 seasons before injuries slowed him down. Not spectacular, but hardly what I'd call the "biggest busts in the NFL." I'd go so far as to say that they've had better pro careers than Buckeye RBs over the last 7-8 years.
