Why doesn't Ohio St. have a traditional...

Muhaha, it's funny that you would post that on an LSU board, because I believe they are probably the only good SEC team that would agree to travel up to Columbus, seeing as they did it before! I was a young lad at that LSU game in the late 80's, and it was a very exciting matchup, with the Bucks beating the highly-ranked Tigers.

I think they would be game to do it again. The rest of the SEC, I'm not so sure. Georgia, Tenn, Florida, Alabama, Auburn...I don't see any of them agreeing to come to Columbus. Arkansas I could see, but they aren't a great program, present season excluded.

EDIT: Duh...I just realized why the Buckeyes are loading up on games against all of those powers in the years to come, but excluding SEC teams. All of those games will be on ABC. They would have to negotiate some agreement with CBS for a home & home with an SEC team, so ABC obviously has some kind of pull on the athletic department. Just a thought.

In regards to the SEC and our scheduling...

(Columbus Dispatch via BuckeyeXtra)
This article is over a year old, but then so is this topic :wink2:

When asked about the SEC, Mr. Geiger says
"Not everybody wanted to play us," former OSU athletics director Andy Geiger said. "Not everybody was like, ?Oh, gosh, we?d love to play you guys. That would be wonderful.?
"Some teams figured they would take their chances that we?d meet in a bowl game somewhere."

I think that is as close to a statement from the AD as you'll get. It's well known that the SEC typically doesn't stray far from home for OOC games. And especially not for top-end programs like.

I posted this on another thread... it's more apt on this one... apologies.

After northern schools opened their doors to black athletes the South would have nothing to do with them. Syracuse was invited to the 55 Cotton Bowl on the promise that they would leave their running back, some kid named Jim Brown, at home. Syracuse went bowling and Brown stayed home... maybe this helps explain his prickly personality. Little Rock, Medgar Evans entering Ol' Miss and George Wallace standing at the gates of 'Bama did not end segregated sports in the SEC. It was after a 1970 USC team went into Birmingham and kicked Bama's ass something like 42 to 21, ( kudo's to BB73, a historian's historian, who straightened me out on this) that Bear Bryant finally gave a scholarship. And when Kentucky got rolled by Nevil Shedd and Bobby Jo Hill of Texas Western in the NCAA finals, the Barron, Adolph Rupp, who had once stood on the K at mid court and promised the students that "No black (he used the 'N' word) player would ever set foot on this floor while I'm coaching," saw the light.

Ergo, race was a major factor in who OSU scheduled in the 40s and 50s and so incidentally probably affects who the Bucks schedule today.

It was after a 64 USC team went into Tuscaloosa and kicked Bama's ass something like 35 to 7, (BB73, a historian's historian, disputes the date, but i remember this game being mentioned in a ed philosophy class I took in the spring of 67)
In BB73's defense, the schedules and game scores are readily available on the Internet, and Bama didn't play USC until 1970. The game was also in Birmingham, not Tuscaloosa. In '64 Bama went undefeated in the regular season and won the National Championship (awarded pre-bowls) then went on to lose the Orange Bowl to Texas.
