Why Do You Live Where You Do

Grew up in Ohio, lived in Columbus for 13 good years. About 5 years ago, my job started to really suck, and I had just got out of a long term bad relationship that left me pretty fucked up in the head.

The ex-wife (not the one I just talked about) who has custody of my only son wanted to move to south Florida for a better job opportunity. I decided to follow shortly due to the fact Ohio had nothing left for me and I wanted to be there for my son while he grew up. Turned out to be the best thing I ever did.

I love Ohio as my home state, but you can keep the shitty winter weather. Christmas time is a bit weird, you know being able to wear shorts and keeping your windows open all day and such, but the perpetual summer and tons of sun does wonders for one's attitude.

Grew up in New York City, now working at a market research agency here part time. Going to be living somewhere else at the end of the summer, hopefully that is Columbus @ The Ohio State University.

How did my family end up in NYC? Well, my grandfather grew up in Brooklyn and went to OSU (not sure why) in the 1930's and then served in WWII, and for a time after lived in Ohio. Somehow the entire family left the state since then and now most of my father's family lives in New York. My mother's family is German, she being the first of her family born in the USA.

At the risk of sounding like a snooty Easterner, I didn't think living in NYC needed an explanation. I love this city.

Grew up in NE OH, went to undergrad at Kent and grad school at OSU. Moved to west MI straight out of grad school and lived there for over a decade (met some shady characters like the guy who started this thread) but moved around west MI every few years for jobs. About four years ago my wife and I decided to wanted to put roots down permanently somewhere. We looked at NC, SC, VA, central OH and NE OH. Decided NE OH to be close to family and friends. At this point we would not move without some great reason.

Have you seen the Official Arizona State thread? I guess I'll add in weather, family and job. No need to change a good thing. Plus I like good Mexican food and illegal labor when I need it. In a car, 5 hours from San Diego, 5 hours from Vegas and 3 hours to Mexico. No snow.

We live in Oregon now because of better employment opportunities in the long run for the husband. No sales tax in the state is nice, the low rent is nice, and Portland has a beer/food/entertaintment culture that can't be beat. Plus, great strip clubs. I won't be the creepy lady at a strip club for at least another ten years, I have to milk that while I still can.

So now you have a dude for a roommate?? Don't you think you're going the wrong way?? lol COD soon bro...

You know you'd rather live with a dude who parties than a girl who doesn't. Especially when the girl is your ex.

And I'm pretty disappointed that you've abandoned your COD friends. :shake:

Oh, you don't have to convince me. I know exactly where you're coming from. I'll take a dude who parties over some girl any day! I didn't know you liked to party, 3074326. We should hook up some time if you're ever in Colorado. Or I can come to your neighborhood for a weekend . . . .
