Why Bucks Fans Should Root Against Notre Dame

Why can't some people understand that other people just do not want to root for that team up north to win. Its almost like blasphemy to root for Meatchicken to win. Thats not to say that I will not root for the team that they're playing to lose. For instance, I did not root for Meatchicken to win over Penn State. I rooted for Penn State to lose. I know its just a play on words but I also think thats how Woody would want it done. It all goes back to one thing, WWWD (What Would Woody do?)

I was just thinking about how much the '02 NC and the BCS system in general is detracting from the OSU UM rivalry.

It used to be - better to lose 10 and beat meatchicken silly than to win 10 and drop at their hands. Hell, I even rooted for tSUN when they played the domers.

I've heard it's not nearly as important to Michigan fans as OSU fans - I wonder if that's true and why.
They have a more distributed fanbase to accompany their national recruiting tendencies? (Proximity not a factor)

They'd been winning handily until recently so they stopped caring? (kind of like the Yankees Sox rivalry for Yankees fans)

They're more caught up in the BCS tournament than The Game

As far as ND goes the whole of their BCS hopes can be summed up in 1 word....Tennessee.

They lose and bye bye BCS, they win and it will still be close.

They are 15th in the current BCS and their SOS is gonna drop like a rock once the Navy, Syracuse and Stanford trifecta hits. The computers hate ND, the human pollsters are the only thing saving that ass.

The rule is 9 wins and a BCS of 12 or better for them.

Ive heard this also coming from scum fans, going as far to say that MSU is a bigger game than the showdown at the end of the Big 10 schedule. I think there are a multitude of factors that contribute to this mindset...

1. Lack of intensity exhibited by the coaches: The lackluster approach that both coaches take pales in comparison to the way it was handled by woody, bo, earle, etc.

2. Their Domination of the Cooper era: No explanation necessary, but overconfidence has seemed to fill the minds of the scum faithful since then.

3. Our past few victories over them having little significance (in their tainted eyes) on the final outcome of their season.

2001-prevented a sharing of the title but overall that wasn’t a <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><ST1:pMichigan</ST1:p team that the folks up north were too proud of.

2002-We beat them to secure a trip to<ST1:pTempe,</ST1:p had they won we would've shared the title with them and been denied a trip to the NTL Championship. Seeing how we won in <ST1:pTempe it </ST1:pprobably gave them an adequate reason to justify a loss.

2003- A team they thought would stomp us, well basically did, had we made it close or won this game it would've been like throwing napalm on a camp fire. It would've prevented them from going to the Rose Bowl, and booked a trip for the Buckeyes instead. I feel it really could've jump started the rivalry 3 OSU victories in a row would've been tough to swallow Ann Arbor</ST1:p.

2004- A big upset, however they still didn’t have a perfect team (non conference loss), and they ended up sharing the conference title anyways giving them back to back trips to the Rose Bowl.

2005- We need to win this one, this would further damper their already abysmal season, and maybe kick start some more hatred for the Buckeyes.

4. No controversial (as of late), or overtime games: Im still waiting for the day when "The Game" needs to head into overtime. I think since these circumstances have surrounded their past few MSU games of late, its taken some wind out of the rivalry we have.

5. Big two little 8 (9)?: Not anymore the game just isn’t having the direct effect it used to on the Big Ten Title. When Iowa, Northwestern, Wisconsin, and <ST1:pllinois </ST1:pcan start laying claim to Big Ten titles, there’s obviously a lack of disparity between the Big 2, and diminished importance on the outcome of The Game.

6. Lack of trash talking: the players have kept their mouths quiet for the most part. Aside from the tussle gamble had in 2003, it doesn’t seem like the players are publicly displaying as much emotion as they used to.

Granted im a rather young Buckeye fan, but from what ive been able to see/read up on the 10 year war, and the history of this great rivalry it just seems like the intensity is worlds apart right now. It could be arrogance on their part, or maybe they are still used to Cooper handing them a victory on a silver platter year after year. Regardless, I think I can speak for everyone when i say that im ready for the second coming of the 10 year war.<O:p</O:p
