Why Bucks Fans Should Root Against Notre Dame

If I remember correctly nobody, in fact we beat one of the teams that beat them. .
I don't think we can cover ourselves in glory with that comparison. MSU gave us that one. I would certainly think our D would kick the hell out of ND's offense. But the Indiana game hasn't convinced me that our offense is causing people in Ann Arbor to sit up late at night.

If OSU plays well it doesn't matter what ND does..
How can you say that? Let's just suppose we beat Texas and PSU and they were undefeated also. do you really think we'd be ranked ahead of them? No Way. Get out the map, look up the number of newspapers/media outlets along the East Coast. That's where ND has a big edge on us and there are more votes there than anyplace else in the US except the West Coast...which also goes ND's way

In fact now that ND is playing better there is probably a better chance of getting them on the schedule because they think they can win. .
would you drop Purdue or Michigan State to play us?

It is probably good for us as OSU fans because ND playing well will force JT to adapt to the new recruiting landscape. If top offensive players start going to ND because they like their offense JT is going to have to bring in someone who can run that type of offense at OSU. JT seems to be a pretty smart guy so I'm sure he will do what he has to to stay on top.
I hope you're right. Right now, with the worst offense in the Big 10, I'm spazing out on Tressel ball.

A resurgent ND helps us as it helps focus attention on the midwest. Yes we will lose a recruit or two to ND, but we may gain one or two from the south or out west that we might not have had otherwise. We need strong, nationally recognized teams from Penn State and/or (I hate to say it) scUM and ND.

That's obvious.

How is it that OSU can get just under 500 yards offense and we're having a OSU's O isn't keeping any one up at night discussion?

Because except for the Iowa and Indiana games (and probably the Illinois game) our offense has been anemic. Because the defense "won" their games against PSU and Texas. Games in which a little O would have us in the BC hunt. Because in every game our defense has given the offense terriffic field position and it hasn't translated into points. Look back at the Iowa and Indiana games and even there the offense had the chance to put the game away early and couldn't do it.

At some point, with this kind of talent, you expect the O to win a few games on their own and it isn't happening. I had the feeling at the end of last season that this offense was maturing; the line play would be improved and the line would be deeper, the receivers would be running better routes, Smith would be spreading the ball around, know when to run and when to throw and hang on to the ball, that a consistent running game would emerge with a consistent 100+ YPG running back.

It may yet all come to happen this way, but I'm replaying the season's games and I'm thinking that we're going to come up short in November. I don't know what it is. It looks to me like this line can pass block and that on quick hitters, they can run block. Pittman is now averaging 115 YPG and is ranked third in the league. It looks to me like the receivers are getting open.

That narrows it down to Smith and the play calling. Smith is a mystery wrapped in an enigma, to borrow from Churchill. You can see the talent on one play and see the lack of judgement on the next.

What you can see in every game is the very tight control Tressel has over the play calls. Call it safe, but with as much talent as this team has on offense there is no reason for it to be ranked dead last in the conference (until Indiana "cured" them), 8th in the Red Zone (where the defense gives them the ball time after time) and 11th in turn over margin.

Now if that isn't mandate for some coaching changes, like bringing in an offensive coordinator, then I don't know what is.

"lack" of offense doesn't much bother me, I guess. I'd much rather a superior D (which OSU has) to a points machine. "Lack" of offense surely doesn't bother me in the week after rolling up nearly 500 yards.

I think Tress played it too close to the vest against Texas and PSU. I'm not going to argue otherwise. On the other hand, it's clearly his style to not take risks against quality opponants and put the team in a position to win. I can live with that. If OSU is dead last in Offense, and OSU wins a championship I'm pefectly OK with it.

Moving the ball isn't the problem, so much. Turnovers are. Especially RZ To's

Voters in polls have their beauty contests and love for traditional teams. Bowl committees love big ol' green U.S. dollars in large numbers and denominations. If loving money is evil, then bowls are too evil for Dr. Evil...that's how much they love money. Who brings the money? WE DO. OSU fans bring wheelbarrows full of money. Anyone here who has been to a Buckeye bowl game has seen us bring money and spend it like fools. If there's a way to take a two-loss OSU team over anyone else, the non-MNC BCS games will find a way.

The idea that ANYONE would take an at-large UCLA over an at-large OSU is ridiculous. UCLA fans won't travel five feet to watch their team play. OSU fans would go to a bowl game in Antarctica if we had to.

Wow are you on the money about UCLA: (From Fanblogs.com)

Who's playing in front of the most empty seats? Seven schools haven't managed to get more than a 40% turnout so far, with Akron (39.3), Tulane(36.1), Central Florida(34.8), UAB(28.5), Temple(26.0), San Jose State(25.6) and Rice(25.0) all coming in with poor showings. Temple is by far the worst attended BCS school, with playing in front of thousands of empty seats in the new Lincoln Financial Park. Rounding out the bottom five BCS schools are Stanford(45.2), Duke(48.9), Baylor(56.5) and UCLA(57.7).
