Who wins the World Baseball Classic?

They were saying during the USA vs Netherlands game tonight that the highest paid player on the Netherlands roster in their pro league makes 40 grand a year.

The highest paid Cuban players make $550 a month. Ahhh, communism. No wonder guys will try go 90 miles across the ocean on a homemade raft.

The Netherlands just hit their first home run of the tournament...seriously.

USA pitcher Matt Lindstrom didn't like the way the Dutch hitter admired it so he fired one at the next guy. Players walked onto the field but didn't cross the white lines.

Almost had a bench clearing brawl in the WBC. That would've been awesome.

Watching the highlights, it looks like our boys did their fair share of celebrating earlier in the game. This wasn't just their first HR of 2009, they didn't hit one in 2006 either, so they couldn't act like they've been there before. :p

I think the USA overreacted. Then again, I think that stuff happens too often in MLB, too. Some of the do's and dont's that lead to beanballs look a lot more like petulant children to me than some manly code of conduct.

I think Nederlands RP Leon Boyd is earning himself a big payday at the WBC. Of course, he did serve up a meatball to Dunn (who promptly deposited the pitch 400' onto the tarp in dead center at Dolphins Stadium). But Dunn can do that to a lot of people. Other than that one pitch, Boyd looked awesome last night, inducing a weak grounder from Youkilis and striking out Wright and Braun.

Boyd recorded a save in the first upset of the Dominican Republic, and he got the win in the rematch (struck out Hanley Ramirez w/ Bautista on third).

He's had two less-than-dominant stretches at the WBC, but I don't think Boyd's been taken behind the woodshed by any of the roster filler. The guys who have hit him have been MLB all stars. Blyleven must have seen something from him to have him in there in those situations.

I'd be shocked if he's not on an MLB roster by the end of this season.

The Dutch player (God, how I hate the Dutch) did take his sweet time in meandering on down to the baseline.

Hot dogging a meaningless solo HR in an 8-1 route would have been a no questions asked plunking for the next guy 15-20 years ago. Matt "Nigel Powers" Lindstrom at least had the decency to throw behind the dutch bastard.

This wasn't the Marlins versus the Reds in April. It was the first HR the Dutch have ever hit in the WBC (9 games). Besides, it's not like our guys weren't having a little fun when they were building the lead. Nobody threw one at, or behind, them.

Maybe Lindstrom should've just focused on pitching instead of reaching for something extra? He left that inning with an injured shoulder.

The fact that the USA is initiating a potential beanball incident with the fucking Netherlands is pathetic. Then again, its almost befitting of our performance in the WBC to date.

Thats just one of those things that people will have to disagree on. I grew up watching Pete Rose break Ray Fosse's arm in an All Star game so I kind of always revert back to the mind set that any game worth playing is worth playing like its for blood.

I do agree the US effort has been full of spectacular suckitude, then again its not exactly our A team. Thats why I picked the Cubans to win it. It mean something to them.

A 6 minute HR for the next Johnny Bench Ramon Hernandez!!!!!!!!!

The only thing Johnny Bench and Ramon Hernandez have in common is they both have an E in their last name. The comparisons pretty much end right there.

I'm guessing the threat of execution outweighs their $500 a month salaries?

So the USA gets another crack at its 51st state today. The winner goes to the semi finals and the loser goes home.

Watching a bit of some of the games it seems apparent that other nations are a lot more fired up about this event than us. Anybody here really into it, or just giving it a passing glance while waiting for the real season - fantasy season :wink2: - like me?

I don't know about that. I also found an 'N' and an 'H' in both. And that's not even talking about the first names. :wink2:
